Autoimmune Paleo - Some Improvement - Weight Loss
I was wondering if anyone has had a weight loss problem with the Autoimmune Paleo diet. I've been improving a little with the frequency of my D, and have even started to have some small improvement with the consistency (not the crazy watery D), but I am continuing to lose weight and it's starting to scare me since I wasn't that big to begin with. In the last three months since this started I've lost 20 lbs., and it doesn't seem to be slowing down even with the less frequent bathroom visits. It's making me think that maybe something else is wrong with me.
I am being very diligent with following the protocol of the diet, so really the only "fat" that I'm eating is a small amount of olive oil or coconut oil to cook with or dip my seafood in (shrimp) and avocado. I've noticed that with my more formed BM's I am starting to see the "oily sheen" on the water which makes me think I'm having a fat malabsorption issue (this did come up in my tests, which I am assuming is not that unusual for MC).
I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that this is "normal" and not some weird "other thing" that's gone goofy with my system.

I haven't tried the AI Paleo diet, but as best I can recall, virtually every member here who has posted about trying it, has mentioned significant weight loss. Most members seem to end up adding certain carbs (that they can tolerate) back into their diet, in order to limit their weight loss. Until you heal enough that you can tolerate more animal fat, it's difficult to take in enough calories to maintain your weight.
Hopefully someone who has actually been through this will see your post and respond.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I did the AIP for awhile, and was also having a problem maintaining my weight. Try and eat as many of the allowed carbs as possible, sweet potatoes, squash, plantains, bananas, avocadoes if you can tolerate all of those. If you have a histamine issue, avocadoes and bananas are high in histamine. I now freeze bananas when just ripe, which I learned on this forum, and still eat avocado, but not as much, and try not to when too ripe. I ended up eventually adding in white potatoes and some rice, which are not AIP or even Paleo, to get more carbs. I also now eat almond and sunflower seed butter. You can eat plenty of fat on the AIP, adding coconut or olive oil to things, unless you think you have a problem with it.

You could also try smoothies to get in some more calories -- with coconut or almond milk, banana (or other fruits), a little bit of avocado, etc.
When I was losing weight during the first part of my elimination diet, I started plugging everything into an online calorie calculator just so I could get a better idea of how much I was eating. There's one called Paleo Track that I liked (http://paleotrack.com/). It's not something I'd bother to do long-term, but sometimes you end up accidentally under-eating calories or going lower-carb than you intended (at least I did!).
