Question about dairy substitutes

Post by Tkdmama »

So I'm eliminating grains, nuts, and soy. Does that leave only coconut milk as a dairy substitute?

There is hemp milk, and so far at least, I'm not aware of anyone who cannot tolerate almond milk (unless they actually have a classic allergy to almonds). While many members here have to avoid certain nuts, I'm aware of only 2 of us who cannot tolerate any nuts at all (I'm one of these 2). But despite the fact that we cannot tolerate any nuts, both of us can tolerate almond milk just fine.

According to enterolab, I am allergic to almonds so I don't drink almond milk. I make my own hempmilk by grinding hempseeds in a magic bullet with a little water, pinch of salt and squirt of honey. I make it as I use it (on cereal, or in a smoothie) so it doesn't go bad.

Also I love coconut milk and use it in smoothies, coffee.

There is boxed commercially available almond milk, hempmilk, coconut milk, rice milk - more - in shelf stable packaging. If you can eat these ingredients you can try these milks. I think hazelnut milk would be excellent but I have yet to try it.

Take care.

Thanks so much! I usually use almond milk but since I'm in "superelimination" phase, I thought I should maybe try something else.
