soluble fiber

Post by Alicegf »

Hi again,

Since I've been having C and D after my surgery for appendicitis, Polly recommended foods with soluble fiber. This is probably old news for most of you, but did you know that foods with soluble fiber are good for both C and D? l either forgot this fact, or never knew it! Since being in MC remission for 14 years until now, the only thing I was very strict about was eating gluten free. I've had the occasional bout of D, but never lasting more than a day and always attributed to a flu bug. So what kind of fiber I was consuming was never even on my radar. Fiber was fiber; and I did try to eat enough of it.

Just thought I post this in case it might help someone.

Soluble fiber also helps feed the good bacteria in the gut. We need to stay away from insoluble fiber, especially in a flare.
If you can tolerate bananas they are a good source of soluble fiber as well as potassium. I can tolerate them barely ripe. If they are too green or too ripe they cause problems. When they get to the right point I put them in the fridge where they will be ok for several days.

Hi Theresa,

You are so right! Bananas, cooked veggies such as brussels sprouts, sweet potato, green beans, squash, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli and fruit such as applesauce.

Thanks for your reply!
