Leah,
You paid and couldn't use the info for the EnteroLab test?!? How frustrating...
Thanks for confirming that my emotions are all justified for this 'new way of life'.
You can eat corn? I thought it was a 'baddie'. You could eat eggs too. That's good.
Sounds like you did a wonderful job with your elimination adventure.
Excellent information.
Thank you,
Summer

Summer,
Soy started getting used in chocolate because it is way way cheaper than cocoa butter...
There is soy free chocolate. Generally the 80% and above dark chocolates are gluten, dairy and soy free.
Enjoy is another one.
Bonvita is another brand.
It can be a bit overwhelming at first, we have all been there. Once you know safe brands, safe products it is easy. And as many will attest, the wellness, energy, focus, etc is worth every ounce of effort!!!

I've had enterolab testing paid 100% by my insurance when my GI wrote the lab orders for it. Although, he only approved a limited selection and I had to paid for additional testing out of pocket for those he deemed unnecessary. It's worth looking into.
I found soy to be a big offender and I wiuld have had no clue. Plus, I was consuming a lot of it thinking I was being healthy. Soy is in everything.

You must have an open minded GI, Deb.
I spose I should have waited until I saw my GIs NP. The GI that did the diagnosis prescribed Budesonide. I asked for a 2nd opinion, he said he would prescribe the same. I'll ask the NP if that is the opinion of all the GIs in that practice, if she knows if any of them think that LC might be 'cured' by a change of diet. I don't see her for 2 weeks, I just want to get this over and get on with what I need to do. Got my kit today. Will send it off Tuesday. It will be worth it to know exactly what I need to avoid permanently and occasionally.
I have noticed soy is in most things, looking at labels in TJs today. It is expensive to buy organic and grass fed meat, but it will be worth it I'm sure.
Thanks,
Summer

i wouldn't consider my GI open minded but maybe I'm not giving him enought credit. It's more because they don't know what to do with me. They are as frustrated as I am (was). I know what I need to do now even if they don't acknowledge food is key to what's going on. I've been resistant to taking drugs from the beginning but accepted I have no choice (for now) so I need them. I don't take the standard doses they use for MC patients because I'm always trying to use as little as possible which wasn't the best choice in the very begining. I've been up front about that and they seem to be ok with it. They are more distant than anything right now because their suggestions haven't worked ie. Pepto, suggesting alternate drugs, etc. They don't like to hear I still have D on a daily basis and I don't like to hear them suggest more drugs to control it. I'm good with where I'm at because I have a life now compared to a few years ago. Am I satisfied with where I'm at? Absolutely not, but I've learned I don't have control over the timeline and the improvements have happened- just at a snail's pace. I've been worse so it's just good to keep looking forward. I shouldn't be so harsh with my GI but there have been on-going blunders that cloud my memory. I am thankful that they allow me to take the lead (as long as I continue to be persistent)

Sorry to hear it didn't help for you. It's frustrating when the meds cause issues instead of helping. I had very bad side effects from prednisone to which just hearing the name makes me shudder. Hopefully you will have some luck with your GI and getting your Enterolab tests covered- it is so helpful.

Deb,
Again I am so grateful that my experience has been very mild compared to others like yourself.
Probably the one person here who could afford to lose a lot of weight, I haven't lost any.
After my chat with the NP at my GI office, I will find out if they are all closed minded. I could hold off sending in my sample if it seems they might send send in an order for the test for me. I'd probably better call my insurance company to see if they would cover it first. I'd only lose $50 to EnteroLabs.
