How to gain weight on restricted diet?

My husband, who was diagnosed with MC 5 years ago, was 6'5" & 180 lbs. Wiry to begin with. After narrowing down his intolerances (gluten, eggs, dairy, nuts, pork, most fruits & veggies, and corn) and modifying his diet, he now weights 165. Does anyone have any suggestions for gaining weight? His diet consists of beef, chicken, rice, and potatoes. He eats roughly every couple of hours and eats small meals. Overeating definitely aggravates his gut.

Can you get more oil into his diet? Maybe a simple smoothie with just a few ingredients? Coconut milk, banana, a little coconut oil. Can he handle avocado?

Those are good suggestions by Lisa. Larger helpings of rice and potatoes will help to put on weight if he can tolerate more of them. Sweet potatoes are also good.

If larger helpings are a problem, that could be a sign that he might be low on gastric acid production. The problem is, the only supplement that seems to be available (that works) is Betaine HCL, and if I remember correctly, it's derived from pork.

Does anyone here know of another option?

Most of us have too low gastric acid production, contrarily to what most doctors and the pharmaceutical industry tell us.

The key to absorb nutrients properly is to have a good gastric acid production.

A nutritionist once gave me the advice to drink applecider vinegar each morning on an empty stomach. The vinegar has to be organic, not pasteurized and with no additives. 2-3 tablespoons in a little glass of water.

He also said that if drinking this gave me a good, warm feeling in my body, this meant that I needed it.

There is no harm in trying this :smile:

PS1: Apparently, the vinegar upgrades gastric acid production when this is low, and downregulates it, if it is too high.
PS2: A good way to gain weight for me has been to eat liver, lambs' hearts from organic fed animals, broth, etc.
PS3: Buy vinegar in a glas container and store it in a cool & dark place.
