Excessive sweating from the head and face - hyperhidrosis

Post by Lesley »

I have a terrible problem with this. The slightest humidity and I POUR so my hair is drenched. It is so uncomfortable and unpleasant. It is the reason I don't go back to Israel in the summer, and one of the main ones I don't go back there to live near my family. I literally feel ill.

I am trying to find a solution to this. I found this site:
http://reducefacialsweating.wordpress.c ... -sweating/

I wonder if anyone else has this problem? If so, what do you do? Would any of these remedies have an effect on the gut?

Anyone know?

Lesley,

I had a hunch that heat intolerance might be another symptom of post-polio syndrome, so I did a search. Sure enough — this article explains why/how it happens.

"Is heat intolerance also a post-polio problem? …"

OMG Tex. I have these big horrible veins. I don't have leg muscle atrophy because I walked on my toes (paralyzed Achilles)for the first 10 years of my life, and it developed my calves. But I know I have no ability to regulate temperature. Everything is extreme. Actually, since menopause winter is better, but it used to be horrible. I have renauds syndrome, and my hands and feet are always purple.
Now I have to figure out how the heck to stop the sweating. That is parasympathetic, so why is it connected?

Lesley,

IMO damage to the sympathetic nervous system is responsible for most post-polio syndrome symptoms. The sympathetic nervous system was apparently designed to facilitate the fight-or-flight response, because when activated, it increases heart rate, activates sweat secretion, dilates blood vessels in skeletal muscle while at the same time constricting blood vessels in gastrointestinal organs, and interrupts digestion by inhibiting peristalsis/motility. That basically covers the majority of your persistent issues.
