My new GP suggested I try oral hyaluronic acid for my osteoarthritis. I checked the Archives and found reference to injectable hyaluronic acid, but not oral. I can't take any anti-inflammatories and my arthritis just keeps getting worse. It would be great if this stuff actually worked.
Has anyone tried oral hyaluronic acid? Tex, do you know of any contra-indication? Since My MC seems to be under control, I'm very hesitant to put an unknown substance through my gut.
Thanks,
Sheila W

Hyaluronic acid orally

Hi Sheila,
I really don't know much about hyaluronic acid. I've never actually investigated or studied it. I do know that at least 1 or more patents have been granted to "inventors" for the use of hyaluronic acid to treat IBDs. Whether the patent claims actually have any validity is unknown.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Well, hyaluronic acid seems to be made primarily from cocks combs. INOW, boy chickens. According to my MRT tests, chicken is a strong yellow and I know if I eat it too often, I will get D. At least that is what happened the last time I was stupid enough to eat it 3 times in 2 days.
Checking hyaluronic user surveys indicates a problem with rashes and other unpleasant side effects. It has taken me 3 years to achieve relative normalcy and, in my mind, remission. To jeopardize this hard won battle to test something that may or may not help my arthritis is just not smart. Too bad.
