It takes a lot of protein to heal intestinal damage. The reason meat is so frequently mentioned is because it is the most practical source of abundant protein for most of us. We have absolutely nothing against a vegetarian lifestyle on this board, but the problem is that most of us are sensitive to soy and most legumes, so that removes the primary sources of protein in a vegetarian diet. Very few of us are able to get adequate protein for healing without including meat in our diet, but if you are able to do so, then by all means go for it. We all have to custom-tailor our own diet.
Even those who eat meat can't eat just any meat. Many of us here are sensitive to chicken, but most of those individuals can eat turkey. Many are sensitive to beef, and some are sensitive to pork. Many are sensitive to certain fish, but not all species. We do what we have to do to provide our body with a healing diet, by picking from what we have available as safe options.
IOW, as Gabes suggested, just do like the rest of us here — eat what works best for you, and whenever there is uncertainty, let your body cast the deciding vote (over emotions and cravings). You're making progress, and that's what counts.
