Hi all,

The one with the highest score, 35%, think that stress caused our MC.

Can stress "manipulate" for instance our immune system (Celiac), or have I got it all wrong?

None of the above. I think the main reason mine showed it's ugly head is my Selective IgA Deficiency…… which leads to autoimmune diseases ( this being my third)

That's a complex topic, but you will develop a much better understanding of it as you read the book.

The bottom line is that for many or us, stress can trump virtually everything else (IOW, stress can trigger a relapse despite the fact that we might be doing everything else right), and in many cases, it does indeed appear to be the final straw that breaks the camel's back when the disease initially develops.

Yes, Tex. I will get there, as soon as D lets me.

It's funny, that being sick also cuts my desire to read, and even the ability to use my brain.

For me:

#1Clearly untreated gluten sensitivity. Three years before I got MC I would get joint pain after eating a plate of wheat spaghetti.
#2 cause: stress---I was going through a sinkhole investigation through my homeowners insurance due to foundation cracking at my house for two years prior to getting MC
#3 cause: sugar

In my case, I believe that sugar and gluten sensitivity set me up (I have the most common celiac gene), by promoting a leaky gut, and stress finished the job of triggering MC.

Parasites + antibiotics used to treat the parasites + stress all at the same time.

I voted use of SSRI because that was 'the straw that broke the camels back' and triggered my MC after my misuse of NSAIDs.

Most are not mentioned on the list, but for me I've held several theories on what brought about my MC.

1) I was a formula fed baby. With the importance of breast milk often mentioned in health writings, I've thought possible that my immune system was poorly developed.

2) I began showing signs of my GI disorder at the age of 15. By 19 it was a daily disruptive problem. When I was 15, I had the previous year or so moved from sunny Florida to chilly Illinois. Because of that, I've wondered if a lack of sunshine exposure led to my condition.

3) I'm a fan of earthing too. When in Florida as a child I was a frequent beach visitor. Possibly that was a contributing factor.

4) In Illinois, we lived in a community surrounded by corn and soy farming. It's crossed my mind that possibly low levels of pesticides were in the water causing me health issues.

5) I didn't have much acne as a teen, but recall that of the little that I had worried my parents. I was taken to a doctor and prescribed medication for this. It was around this time that my GI symptoms began.

6) Today, the leading theory I have on what caused my MC is I was born with an allergy to birds. Over the last few years I've experienced good luck at improving my GI problem by avoiding chicken and eggs. (I also avoid grains, so can't discount that too) What has been frustrating is that while better, my energy levels remained low. I wasn't fully recovering.

Of late I've been avoiding all bird. I had been eating turkey. It didn't happen over night, but since doing that, I began experiencing much greater energy. The always fatigued feeling all but went away. I'm not out the woods, and still have questions such as if I have a bird allergy I was born with why didn't that express its self when I was younger. Fingers crossed I'm heading in a correct direction. Of late it's been nice having some extra energy for a change.

Hi Blueberry,

You might be interested in these past polls:

Did You Suffer From Colic, When You Were A Baby?

And regarding your comment about moving from Florida to Illinois, vitamin D deficiency is strongly correlated with the development of not only IBDs, but virtually all AI diseases.

Regarding treatment for acne, I'm sure you're well aware that Accutane lawsuits were very common a few years ago, after the product was shown to lead to the development of inflammatory bowel disease (and surely that includes MC).

While we have many members who are birdwatchers, I believe that you are the first to report a bird allergy, so it's no wonder that I missed that one in the listed choices for the poll.

Thanks for sharing your observations, and I hope that your health continues to improve.

Stress I think was my initial trigger when I was 10 and sitting an entrance exam. That's the first time I had any issues. The University exams (stress) but it wasn't until I moved to the Canary Isles (I was 27) when I had my first major flare which was diagnosed as IBS. It wasn't until I was 42 that I was finally diagnosed MC! I think the Canaries would have been possibly environmental!

Thanks for the information and poll. Yeah, kind of ironic about a possible bird allergy. If it works out that way, ironically I've recently moved back to Florida, onto an island, located next to a bird sanctuary. While on the back porch, got to see an eagle today swoop in toward the house! It was a grand sight to witness. The cat on the other hand wasn't as thrilled and understandably scurried away quickly.

Blueberry
prior to the MC dx, I was super allergic to most animals.
if unwell, could not even walk into a house where cats lived, never mind let them touch me.
in my childhood there were times when I could not be outside, down wind of horses, without having asthma attack

Since the MC dx, and following the strict eating plan, low inflammation, histamine levels in balance, i no longer react to animals, can pat any cat or dog, horse and not react! its great!

Appreciate hearing about your experience Gabes. It really is wonderful that I've done so well in Florida. It concerned me some early on about living next to the bird park. Thankfully being surrounded by birds has turned out not to be a problem. This is the best I've felt in a long long time!

Well the straw that broke the camel's back for me was beta blockers! I would get acute episodes of D with Gluten for a few years but it didn't become chronic watery D till I got on beta blockers.
Diagnosed with Lymphocytic Colitis in July, 2012 then with Celiac in November, 2012.
