I'm back with Estrogen issues

Post by ladyathome »

I am in the throws of a mess..I've been in remission for so long, and now I'm back.
I (against my better judgement) allowed my GYN to talk me into using vaginal estrogen for dryness and pain. I have had a horrible reaction once again. She swore it would stay locally..but it DOES NOT! I've experienced D, but much worse and more severe I've had belching to the extreme, burning, chest pain from gas, and yellow stools. I'm certain now that estrogen brings it on for me. I'm very slowly coming out of it, but I was just wondering if any of you feel like they've experienced an estrogen induced flare? It just seems like it's mostly in my upper GI now. I have found articles that connect GERD and hormones and there is a connection..but I don't know what to do about it. I don't believe PPIs work with this at all. I found a doctor that has done research at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville..called for an appointment and guess what...he just retired. Any advice?

Sorry to hear about the horrible reaction

my advice is go back to basics, low inflammation, minimal ingredients, bland eating plan
Take lots of Vit D3, magnesium, etc to help with the GERD.

you could take H2 Antihistamines to help with the gerd until the Vit D3 and magnesium can kick in and help

Follow the guidelines for Gerd:-
- sleep on your left side
- elevate the bed head
- light meals later in the day
- smaller meals/snacks more frequently through the day

Keep a diary/journal
-note any ingredients that make the symptoms worse, and avoid these for a few weeks
I found that i could not eat within 30 mins of having coffee. Nor could i do tasks like vaccuuming or cleaning the bathroom within 2 hours of eating - avoid activities that exacerbate the gerd until you can get the inflammation down

hope you feel better soon

Your post convinces me that I need to try getting of my HRT. How long does it take to get it out of your system?

I NEVER HAD A REACTION PER SAY, BUT AFTER MY CANCER SURGERY, I NOW HAVE TO TAKE A ESTROGEN RECEPTOR BLOCKER. I HATE THE SUDDEN MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS, BUT MY MC IS MUCH BETTER.

I'm so sorry for your reaction to the cream. I use it from time to time with no problem. Isn't it funny how we all react differently?
Hope you are feeling better SOON!!!

Pat I only did it for approx 2 weeks at the end of August and early September, so it's been close to 2 months since I stopped. I am just starting to feel like things are beginning to stabilize for me. The hormones cause some type of reaction in my body that isn't normal. I have read that increased hormones in pregnancy causes GERD and acid reflux...but what happens to me is so much worse. I had panic attacks with it as well. Funny thing is, I had a hysterectomy about 16 years ago and used bio-identical hormones without any problem at all for years. My doctor shakes his head and has no idea what to do.

Gabes-Apg Thank you for your reply! I did up my Vit D and Mag. Interestingly, what I eat or don't eat seems to have little effect on my symptoms.. I do feel like there is inflammation..I cough a clear mucus that comes from deep down...which is not something I normally do.

Grahm I used them for years with no issues too! Progesterone does it to me too. With my CC came my intolerance for hormones. I wonder if it's just a coincidence...

Leah That is interesting that your MC is better on the estrogen blockers...
