Thanks Tex! I am taking a day's leave tomorrow to allow myself some chill out time and not even attempt to have to get up etc. I am still experiencing low grade pain on RHS - and that is with painkillers! But I guess I just have to let the meds and diet kick in and not be so impatient!

Glad you decided to take tomorrow off, Anne. I was actually thinking that a few days rest would really help you, just not having to worry about getting up and out in the morning.

Anne
sorry your morning turned out that way.

When I had the painful episodes, the only thing that helped was rest - like 23 hours a day rest, and having lots of water and small serves of easy to digest liquid or mush meals.
one episode was so bad it took me 4 days.

When I was a teenager, I was hospitalised twice with 'suspected appendix' (extreme pain in the RHS) way worse when walking
it wasnt appendix, albeit constant bed rest and being on drip fixed it. they did various scans and tests and said it must have been 'growing pains'

knowing what I know now, I would avoid painkillers and rest. Painkillers wont reduce the inflammation they just mask the pain.

I hear you Gabes but I need both!!! Today I have slept a lot - my body tends to do that when I am not well. I am still lacking appetite as much due to lack of activity but am doing as you advise with just small meals of soup and rice. I have added a tiny bit of apple juice in as well. That's my diet! And quite honestly if it works I may just stick to it for the next month! or year!

Good plan...
rest rest rest not just your body, your mind as well.

It is easy for the mind to get into a bit of spin while we are resting, this is what I should have been doing, when i get better I must clean those pictures on the wall, I need to get better by next Tuesday for x meeting etc... If you have the spare $10-$20 highly recommend downloading audio books/guided meditations to assist the nurturing!!

Have enough soup and apple juice to keep hydrated - the loss of appetite your body is telling you it needs a break!

And a PS - in line with the discussion about Teeth.

Dental work used to cause me major flare issues, even just a check and clean as the bacteria lurking in our gums etc is stirred up and ends up in the gut (which causes inflammation)
further if you had dental work, the local and various other things they use, cause me major inflammation. I used to take double doses of anti-histamines to minimise impact.

I now have all the troublesome molers removed or fixed, zinc liquid and lingual CoQ10 has my gums and teeth healthy, bacteria free. I had a check up a month or so ago, first time in 10 years NO ISSUES!!!!!

My Doctor has given me codeine phosphate to try and reduce the rapid transit but it makes me feel really ill so I am trying not to take it. So my question is how many of you out there have this particular symptom of formed stools but just a lot of them? They tend to be floaters and I am experiencing a lot of wind!
Anne
Ann:

Floaters indicate higher levels of undigested fat, which can also increase the number of movements. You might try taking a high lipase digestive enzyme with each meal to see if that helps. It is certainly worth a try. That said, sometimes we cannot figure out what caused the flare and we just have to ride it out. Stress is certainly one of my triggers!

Hi Ann,
Would that be related in anyway to terminal ileum issues? That is where a lot of my pain is.

How do you know it is not appendicitis?

Has your doctor done an X-Ray or a scan?

Or an ultrasound?

I have had this pain intermittently since I was 21! The first time I was taken to A&E because they thought that it was appendicitis. Then for years I assumed it was ovarian pain. Post-hysterectomy, I don't have them anymore so I was more than surprised when I got it again. While I did have a very low grade fever last weekend followed by this acute attack, it is now such a familiar pain that I know in myself it isn't appendicitis. And when my Doctor examined me, while it was tender/uncomfortable, my belly was soft and there was no rebound pain. Nope, my GP confirmed this is pure and simply inflammation. Obviously a colonoscopy (which I know will now be scheduled soon) may throw light on the matter but I have no reason to assume it is anything but MC at the moment!

Anne:

If the undigested fat is being fermented or trapped in the terminal ileum, than "Yes", it could be related. It is certainly worth a try.

Actually I didn't! I woke up feeling a whole lot better  so decided to go into work! Because they were not expecting me, they rationed my work i.e. kept it light!

For me, to have stayed at home would have felt wrong. It is as simple as that! Then I had to go to my parents who had especially asked me to come to dinner because a recently widowed lady of about the same age as me was the guest, and the couple who were also to come had to cancel!

Slight nightmare given I have eaten nothing but chicken soup, rice and apple juice for the last 3 days!

But Mum was great - 2 x king prawns with garnish ( they were having prawns, tomato, melon and dressing) starter;
a 2" square fillet steak well cooked, with 3 asparagus spears, 3 julienne cut carrots, half a small potato boiled vs 8" steaks with pepper sauce, veg in butter and potato noisettes.

Only minus was the Alpro soy caramel dessert! I didn't have the heart after so much effort on her part to say anything so I played with it and had a couple of mouthfuls but I will suffer! But tomorrow and for the next month I am sticking to chicken soup, rice and apple juice!

And I am going to draw up a list of what I can eat rather than what I cannot for my mum! Tex, I seem to remember a member had a "bring to a restaurant" list of what they could eat?? Would be grateful for it as a template if you can recall it?

Hi Anne,

It's nice to see that you were feeling much better by yesterday.

You can find a description of that card at the link below. It's also in an appendix in the back of the book, but it's much easier to just copy the text from the post at the link below, and modify it to suit your needs in your word processor or text editor before printing it on a card of your choice. If you have a lot of text, but still want to use a smaller card, you can reduce the card size by printing on both sides.
