A Simple, Non-Invasive Test To Diagnose "IBS"

Post by tex »

Hi All,

If there's one thing that doctors love to do, it's diagnose "IBS" (as if "IBS" actually existed ). Now they are perfecting the perfect tool — a breath test that can be easily used to diagnose kids with "IBS".
Children with irritable bowel syndrome have a unique breathprint that could eventually be used to diagnose the syndrome simply, cheaply, and noninvasively, preliminary findings suggest.
Children With Irritable Bowel Have Unique Breathprint

Doctor: "Here kid, exhale into this tube. Hmmmm. Yep — you've got IBS alright. We've gotta start treating you immediately. Here's a prescription that will fix you right up."

Get those kids hooked on prescription drugs while they're still young, and you have a guaranteed income stream for the rest of their life. But you gotta do it before some troublemaker comes along and destroys the opportunity by convincing them to change their diet to eliminate their symptoms.

:sigh:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I have to agree with you on this one. However, there might be a tiny bit of truth hidden in all this crazyness. The altered breath might be due to by-products produced by gut microbes which are out of balance. The Standard American Diet might have something to do with that. Maybe a simple change to a healthier diet should be the prescription!

I totally agree, but that's something that will never happen with the mainstream medical establishment. How could it — physicians have virtually no training in nutrition and maintenance of health by diet, and since their drug reps (and big pharma in general) will never provide that training (instead, they promote disincentives to treatment by diet), it would be unrealistic to expect mainstream physicians to ever reach that level of competence.
