Taking a dive
Not that I am trying to emulate Peg's performance or anything, but I took a sort of dive off the patio at my daughter's place this afternoon. There is a drop of about 6-8 inches between the deck level & her dining room (god knows why, very bad design) & I was coming inside & just forgot about the drop & sort of over-balanced & down I went, quite heavily. Lucky enough not to break anything but pretty sore & sorry & probably will be a bit more so tomorrow. Jinked my neck & back, broken blood vessel in my calf, wrist pretty sore as is right ankle & arm. Glasses were a bit bent but Robert has straightened them out for me. Jane called the ambulance & two very nice young men gave me a pretty good going over, even took my blood pressure which was understandably a bit up, 175 over something or other. Came home & had a nice warm bath but got a bit dizzy after a while so got out & had a bit of lie down.
I nearly did the same thing a couple of weeks ago so I should have taken more care. Very definately will in the future. Jane feels terrible about it & got pretty upset but It is not her fault. I have just got to be more careful.
She lives in a unit in a resort & the paramedics asked her to tell the management not only about the danger in the design but that the resort does not have clear signage or directions to various units. Jane got them to call her on her mobile when they were outside & she went down to meet them. They said, & rightly so, that if a person became ill & they were on their own at night, they would have a lot of difficulty reaching them.
I think I am very lucky that nothing was broken. Well that is all for now. Going to bed & will report on condition tomorrow.
Love

Good grief, Liz. That sounded like a very bad fall. Thank goodness nothing is broken. Hope the morning doesn't find you too sore. If it does, just allow yourself to be waited on hand and foot. Something good has to come out of this!
Maybe one good thing already did--the emergency personnel finding out about the poor signage. That's very important in a more time-sensitive emergency.
Well, hope you're soon. In the meantime have a and put your feet up (if you can).

Wow, Liz,
You're really were lucky that you didn't break anything. Falls really suck. They're always hanging around, waiting to catch us off guard, and sooner or later, they catch us by surprise.
I hope your aches and pains are minor today, and they don't seriously interfere with your plans.
Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Liz. I am so sorry you took a spill but am thankful you are all right except for the bruises and aches.
Please...take extra special care of yourself for the next few weeks. I have a theory that a fall or accident can "confuse" the spleen - which keeps track of past illnesses and current threats and controls our immune responses - into sending out unnecessary antibodies. Crazy, probably, but I can trace most of my digestive problems to a bad fall in Nov. 2003 that jarred my whole body. Not long after I was experiencing the same digestive problems I hadn't had since I was two years old - the same exact symptoms. When I mentioned this to Dr. Peter Green, the Celiac expert, he didn't seem to think the theory was crazy at all!
Here's a short explanation of what the spleen does:
The blood vessels of the spleen are surrounded by nests of B lymphocytes - mainly of the memory type. As the blood slowly moves through the spleen, it is monitored by T-cells for any non-self invaders. If some suspicious cell or molecule is detected, it is presented to the resident B-cells for a match to an appropriate memory B-cell. Once a matching B-cell is activated, the cell divides rapidly and begins producing antibodies directed against the invading antigen.
Taking things one step further, maybe those lymphocytes found in LC are related, in some way, to the spleen. Oh well...enough theories for this morning. Just stay well and take care of yourself, Lizzie!!!
Love,
Carrie

Hi Liz,
Slow Draw McGraw here. I am so sorry to hear that you took such a spill and hope that you are feeling somewhat better today. It sounds like you did a real banging around on the way down. Please do take care and just sit back and rest a bit.
Love, Maggie
