iodine info needed

Post by Hopeful »

I have seen references in our discussions about supplementing with iodine. I think Gabes refers to this. I have done a little research and see the value of this supplementation.

Can someone suggest some good sources?

Also, how do you do a "search" of topics like this on the forum?

Hopeful,

I don't take iodine supplements. Instead I use flaked seaweed, about a tsp a day, mixed in with various things. I always put some in my bone broth and I sprinkle it over cooked vegetables along with coconut oil. This is the kind I have been using:

Hopeful,

To search the archives, simply click on the big red link above these posts that says, "Search The Archives of This Discussion Board", and enter the key words that you want to search for. Be sure to select the "Search for all terms" option if you want to limit the search to threads that contain all of your keywords. You can further limit the search to specific forums if you wish, but you may miss some good posts that way. Then just click on the "Search" button to see a list of "hits".

The lingual version of iodine i am using is a practitioner only range produced in Australia

quick search on iHerb reveals loads of results

I buy the 'now foods' brand of other products from iHerb and thus far the products are very good

quite a few drop/liquid products there as well.

Potassium iodide in plain water is usually a pretty safe supplement. A word of caution: Iodine should not be supplemented by those on thyroid hormone therapy.

I was just researching iodine supplementation, being that I don't eat many high-iodine foods and I don't use iodized salt... anyway, Chris Kessler and others have suggested that if one chooses to supplement, selenium should be taken concurrently.

Dr. Ann do you have anything to say about this?

Here is where I read it. I am considering just eating some seaweed now and then and brazil nuts for selenium, not sure if that's a good strategy. I am not sure if I want to start any more supps.

I eat a few Brazil nuts every day and add about a tsp of seaweed flakes to sauteed greens with coconut oil daily. I assume it is beneficial. It doesn't seem to have any bad effects. I too don't use iodized salt.

Nancy
you might have to PM Ann, not sure if she is visiting the forum as much at the moment

Synergistic nutrients for Iodine:
B3, B Complex, and Vit C, copper, magnesium, tyrosine, selenium and zinc.

you might need a bit more than just selenium to ensure you are optimising iodine absorption and function.
