digesting fats

Post by ldubois7 »

Hi everyone!

Got my test results from my ND. My Fecal fat totals were high (I figured that they were), especially with the long-chain fatty acids, & phospholipids.

My gastrointestinal microbiome shows overall low for short-chain fatty acids (butyrate being high, acetate being low).

Since I only take betaine HCL, I am looking into digestive enzymes. I found some lamb pancreatic enzymes. (I don't tolerate pork or beef). My ND had suggested a basic vegetarian enzyme.

What do you think? I need help digesting fats, proteins, & probably carbs to a certain extent.

Linda,

I know virtually nothing about enzyme supplements. However, if I were in that situation, I would choose animal-based enzymes for this reason:

Animals thrive by digesting fats, proteins, and carbs. Plants do not normally digest those nutrients (except for specialized plants such as the Venus fly trap, etc.) Plants get their nutrition directly from the soil and the air, so they have no need to be able to digest those intermediate compounds. I realize that the plant-based enzymes are probably synthetic, but I'm not a fan of synthetic "foods", since they are as foreign to our body as an apple grown on Mars.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
