Hopefully PGE used in some laxatives isn't the next Vioxx! What a sad state of affairs Vioxx was though. From what I recall happened with it, Merck the manufacturer had their marketing department write up studies showing the safety of the drug. Then professors were paid to sign off on the studies, even though they had not been done. The ghost studies were then sent off to medical journals and the FDA. 100,000 Americans died from Vioxx I believe. Many more outside the country. The company paid a fine, but I don't believe anyone went jail over what happened.
I think there are some wonderful parts to our health care system. But I've learned looking into, there is a good amount that is wrong and frightening with our medical system too. In the case of severe constipation I guess if I or a family member were to develop I'd look for natural relief methods first such as life style/ diet changes, and if possible getting off the offending medication causing the painful backup.
