Visit with Grand daughter

Post by Liz »

Went to visit Nikki in her new abode yesterday (pre bike incident) She & her flat mates have a very nice townhouse down at Clontarf, only about 1/2 hour from here.

Met one of the other girls for the first time. Amy is in her second year of nursing training. Just as well nurses don't have all the heavy lifting that they used to have as there is nothing of her, tiny little thing.

It is really exciting for Nik being out on her own for the first time. The only problem that they have is a very nosy & tyrannical body corp chairman who sends them, & I expect most other residents a letter dictating something nearly every day. Like 'bringing in rubbish bins as soon as they have been emptied' which is a bit difficult if they are all out at work or college. I told them to bake him some nice biscuits & take them to him with a smile. See what happens. Either that or buy him a robot dog (real dogs are not allowed) to give him something to do walking it,rather than just sit & watch his neighbours.

Glad you had a nice visit. Nursing is a great field to go in to. My husband was in the Army and decided to get out and go into the reserves so he could go to nursing school. He already had a degree but hated his job. So, off he went, back to school. He loves nursing. When he graduated, everybody called to offer him a job. The medical community desperately needs nurses. But he chose to get back in the military and decided to join the Air Force this time. Nikki couldn't have chosen a better career.

Now we're about ready to leave the St Louis area and move to North Carolina where he would be a flight nurse. I'm excited for him, but sad for us because he will be gone ALL the time.

Much love
Arlene

I agree that nursing is a great career choice. It is Nikki's friend Amy who is doing it. Nik runs the cosmetic dept in one of the Priceline stores. We need doctors here very badly also. Year ago the AMA decided to reduce the numbers of doctors going through the system, now we are feeling the results.

I bet you will get a bit lonely without your husband around so much.

Sounds as if there are alot of rules. Why aren't dogs allowed Liz? Glad you had a great visit. Nursing is a great field here. They eveb offer sign on bonuses...some up to $2,000.00. Wish I was a nurse huh? Liz you do alot of crafts...I am about to start a second afghan. I have one I am working on. I have soooo much yarn that came from my FIL when he died..so I am putting it all into afghans and giving them away. I should sell them. I'll try and get a pic of them. Love Oma

Hi Oma. A lot of places have rules that you can't have pets of any kind. Where my daughter Jane lives you can't & the kids got a bird & a white mouse. they had to give them away. Their dog lives with a friend. Sad hey. Have fun doing your afghans. I would love to see a pic of them. Do you crochet or knit?

Aged peoples homes are always on the lookout for knee rugs & such or you could also try selling them. I made one for a my bowls district for them to raffle. They made $600.00 on it & if all the clubs had participated they probably could have made more. So they are good money raisers for sports clubs & charities & such. Have a heap of wool here still & am thinking of making one for the VIEW club to raffle. It would go a long way towards suporting another 'Learning for Life' student.
