Lanolin

Post by Gabes-Apg »

for those interested, I got my iHerb order today with pure lanolin products, i got;

'now solutions pure lanolin' - goes on the skin well, no strong smell at all. (it actually absorbs better than the product I had been using) the 207ml tub cost me $9.16 AUD (to do feet, lower legs I only used about about 3ml )

'Home Health Liquid Lanolin' it says it is an emollient but it is pure lanolin.
no strong smell, it also absorbs/spreads well. the 118ml bottle cost $7.56 (to do hands and arms I only used about 1-2ml)

Thank you for sharing this, Gabes. I have been looking at different brands of lanolin. Reading this post reminded me I hadn't ordered any yet. BUT... now I have. I look forward to getting it. It's cold and dry up here in Wisconsin, so in addition to possibly increasing my D level, I am hoping for something to relieve the dry skin that I get in this type of weather.

:hug1:

Thanks again.

Paula,
In Texas when the weather is cold the indoor humidity is very low and results in dry skin and static electricity. I have 3 humidifiers going!
I apply baby magic to my entire body with a back scrubber (nylon net type). I didn't like the feel of the lanolin and use it on my hands and feet only.

Thank you, Theresa. That would be worth a try. It should be safe. It gets so dry here. Our temperatures here have not even been up to 20 degrees for well over a week.

This low humidity is horrible! I use coconut oil as moisturizer all the time, but need more in the winter. I've been using Bag Balm on my hands and feet. I may try getting the lanolin, too, as my Bag Balm is almost gone.

I'm in Texas too (Dallas), and static electricity is doing crazy things to hair. I put my three-year-old granddaughter in the car, and her hair just stuck straight out like she was touching one of those static-producing balls that you find in science museums. Her brother and I got a good laugh.

Paula, this weather is depressing! It's drizzling here now which will make a nice glaze on the sidewalks. My husband texted me from the woods saying how cold it is out there. Hopefully he will get a nice buck to take his mind off of the weather.

I just ordered some lanolin on Amazon to give it a try.

Hi Deb - your hubby must be a hunter also. My husband left Friday morning and will come home for an overnight visit tonight, but will leave again tomorrow morning for another couple of days. Yes, this weather is depressing. We've had the drizzling rain here also with heavy a.m. and p.m. fog. I live near the Mississippi River (La Crosse WI area) so we have the bluffs and coulees. The hills are not fun to drive on when we get the glaze of ice. Not sure if I remember correctly, but are you from the Wausau area? Do you eat venison? All I do with mine when it comes to the steaks and roasts is place them in a roaster pan, season with iodized sea salt, add several stalks of celery and sliced onions to take away the gamey taste, add couple inches of water to the pan, then place in oven until done and tender. I hear it is great when canned, but have never tried that yet.

I also ordered the lanolin from Amazon to hopefully increase my D level. I ordered both of the ones Gabes recommended. Not sure again of how that helps to improve the Vitamin D level. Does it have to be sunny outside for it to work?

Theresa - I also bought some Baby Magic to help with the dry skin. So far am loving it. It is very soothing on my already chapped hands. I found improvement overnight.

Yes, you still have to expose your skin to the sun. The lanolin simply provides an extra amount of pre-vitamin D (a concentrated form of the 7-dehydrocholesterol produced by the body that is converted to vitamin D3 by exposure to the sun).

IOW, the body produces 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin, and the action of ultraviolet B light in sunlight upon that chemical (7-dehydrocholesterol) produces vitamin D3. Lanolin contains a concentrated form of 7-dehydrocholesterol, so applying lanolin to the skin and exposing it to sunlight should "supercharge" one's production rate of vitamin D.

Paula,
Even if you don't get to use the sun as a supercharged Vit D3 producer in these winter months, the lanolin is a very good natural/pure moisteriser.... No additives, no soy, etc.

Paula, you remembered correctly, I'm in the Wausau area. Fog has been heavy here too- makes me nervous for all the hunters. I haven't eaten venison since I was a kid. Seems odd since it's in the freezer. I think I will try your recipe for a nice change of pace. I stopped eating all wild game once I hit middle school and never tried it since.

I'm hoping the lanolin will help with dry winter skin.

I have started using the Lanolin to counteract the dryness of the mag oil spray on my feet. Works beautifully!

My husband hunts as well and we cook the venison. Here is a great recipe for cooking a shoulder or ham.

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Place shoulder or ham in large metal roasting pan, rub with olive oil and season. Cook for an hour, then add whatever liquid you would like (I just use water, can use beef broth, apple juice, beer, etc.) add onion and other veggies if you like, then cover with foil very tightly and cook another 4.5 hours. It will fall off the bone.

DebE and Paula, I am close to you in MN. We might have to try for a meeting sometime. My dad used to can venison and it really was the only way I liked it. I went to a cooking class though (surprisingly in AL) and had the best meat I ever had....it was venison. I always had a problem with the fat/tallow thing on the roof of my mouth. Deb

I make jerky out of ground venison mixed with salt and then placed in the dehydrator. Makes for a good snack.

Deb, DebE and Paula - i think you should have a venison meet up! and share the pics with us!!

Pat- with the magnesium and Vit D3 on your feet, that should be a turbo charged Vit D3 producer when the sunlight hits it!!

Donna P, I think you're close by too! How about after the weather clears we have a gathering? Maybe the Stillwater area? Deb
