Update: off Budez (Entocort) for a month

Post by ant »

Dear MCers

Last March Tex wrote
I have a hunch that if you decide to retire from the consulting business, and devote your efforts to writing (and relaxing), you will have less need for Budez in the future. Wink
Well..... I have been taking things a bit easier and not needed to take Budez for a month now

I have had about 5 short occurrences of urgent D and/or bloating in the month, but they have only lasted a few hours (unlike the days/weeks when I was first suffering). Now, without any medication (just diet) I quickly return to an ok mix of normans/non-urgent, non-watery loose stools.

Without wanting to tempt fate :xfingers: I feel that after over 4 years of needing to treat myself with diet and Budez/Entocort my gut has sufficiently healed and/or my anti-transglutaminase antibodies have sufficiently reduced to take off the training wheels and go diet only. If this is the case it could give hope to others who feel they will never get off the drug.

As an indication of a slow but steady healing, I noticed about 6 months ago that I only needed to take one capsule to bring down a flare. Whereas before I needed to knock it down with about three consecutive days of three capsules per day before tapering back to a maintenance dose.

I will need to see if this improvement lasts. But for now, unless I go into a long term flare, I will not take the drug.

Perhaps my signature line is coming true? :monkey:

Best wishes to all, ant :antemoticon:

Great news! Hope it all works out for you.
Stress is a large part of my problem too, I am trying to eliminate things that cause stress, too.

That is great!
I am reducing my budesonide at present after enduring LC for over five years. Right now I think that most of my symptoms are side effects of the drug. It can be difficult to tell which are side effects and which are LC, like lots of gas and other things.
You are an inspiration to all of us.

Hello Ant,

Excellent! It's great to read such an upbeat post, and it's inspiring to realize that you may finally be catching that monkey.

Thank you for your uplifting update, and like everyone else, I truly hope that your health continues to improve.

That's good news to hear Ant. I retire the end of this month and hope to get good results like you once my stress lessens.

Wow! great news Ant!!

you are very brave to embrace this approach,
hope life is being kind, and things are progessing in Thailand

are you still enjoying a cheeky shiraz?
Best wishes for ongoing healing and wellness.

take care

PS - along with Vit D, magnesium is fantastic for helping bone strength, gut healing, etc. you can get a good dose of magnesium via sprays/liquids. (and avoid any D issues)

Dear Gabes,

You have always encouraged the no drugs approach, if possible, and maybe now I can get there.

Thailand is progressing and, perhaps significantly, about the time I appear to have got off Entocort the main legal and construction issues were resolved on my condominium purchase. I should take possession in mid-January.

Yes, I still enjoy Shiraz and a few other grapes: 'pray, do not mock me. I am a very foolish fond old man' but I do believe it helps digestion (well that is my story and I am sticking with it )

If you plan a trip to Thailand let me know. The kitchen will be MC friendly.

best :ant5:
