Coconut oil supplements
Hi folks,
I searched to see if there was already anything about this, but am not great at searching here.
A couple weeks ago, I posted about being in a bad flare, almost certainly stress related. I mentioned it to a friend, who said she had coconut oil supplements (NuSource, 1000 mg) she could no longer take because they made her constipated. She offered them to me.
After taking them for two days, it's a Christmas miracle, haha. Norman has appeared.
Why would this be?

What are the supplements like? I am now using coconut oil as my supplementary dietary fat (to add to sweet potatos and fry my chicken in, and sometimes on rice.) In the place of butter. I am trying to imagine how/why it could be refined into a "supplemet" as opposed to the original form.
I'm very interested in this, but have never heard of it.

iHerb sell coconut oil supplements - so there must be demand for them.
Given the multiple benefits it has, I am not surprised. I dont think coconut oil alone would achieve remission, used in conjunction with the right eating plan, supplement plan etc then it will definately help!
great news!

Suze- I'm going to disagree with Kathy- I think coconut oil can have a pretty distinct coconut to e to it- which I find delicious! But some are more flavorful than others. There seems to be some variation between brands and processing. So I say if you don't like one, try another brand. Kathy- what brand do you use and where do you get it?
Also, an aside- I use coconut oil to treat some skin conditions in my horses and it's amazing how well it works- confirmed by many other horse owners. So it does have some other wonderful healing benefits- at least for horses. I think that we are just starting to scratch the surface of understanding it's properties.

The processing determines whether or not coconut oil has a strong coconut flavor. Unrefined coconut oil typically has a relatively strong coconut flavor, whereas refined coconut oil typically has very little coconut flavor (depending on the degree of refining). For frying, you'll want to use refined coconut oil, because it has a much higher smoke point than unrefined coconut oil. Unrefined coconut oil will smoke when you get it up to deep-frying temperatures.
For my money, no other oil compares with refined coconut oil for frying fish, for example. It's superb! And I never notice a coconut flavor.

coconut oil supplement
Suze,
Get the refined one as Tex stated. I first got the unrefined one and EVERYTHING tasted like coconut including sauteed vegies etc. I couldn't handle it. But the second jar I got was refined and I can do anything with it. It doesn't smell or taste like coconut. I use it for everything.

Refined does not taste like coconut or smell like coconut. I use it for all my cooking/paleo baking.
I have one jar of unrefined (cheaper from Trader Joes.) that I use for greasing pans, removing eye make up, dry skin. It tastes like coconut and smells like coconut. My trader Joes only has the unrefined.

I got a compliment from a gal at a holiday party that I was "glowing." Then two gals standing next to the original girl chimed up and said the same "glowing" thing. I was wearing undereye concealer and a touch of lip gloss....nothing else. I think it is due to coconut oil, olive oil and our healthy food regimen.
