I had a hysterectomy a month ago, and the d has REALLY REALLY dramatically improved immediately after surgery and hasn't come back! Granted, I have also been on a very restrictive diet for 3 mos now, and had significantly reduced symptoms - d only once or twice a morning and that is IT, but it was still d and I still had some urgency about half the mornings. I hadn't successfully introduced many foods back - only had 7 things I could eat that didn't make the d MUCH worse.
Since my hyst I have had loose stools, but it's not d, and sometimes it's even solid! I have NO urgency - in fact it's taking a little bit of time to complete the task (several minutes instead of 3 seconds). Have introduced quite a few new foods (on the 3 day intro), and NOTHING has caused trouble! Have re-introduced a couple of things that were really problematic earlier and they are ok too. WOOT! I *am* having quite a bit of cramping and pain when I have to go, which I never had before, but that could be my intestines just not being up to the task after so many years of not having any real work to do.
So I don't know if my hormones were the issue (d did seem to get significantly worse monthly, ovaries now removed, doing fine with estrogen patch), or if it's the c that so many people experience after hysterectomy combining with my natural state of d to meet in the middle, or a combination, or maybe the diet just finally kicked in and I got enough healing, but I am not complaining!
