MC and psoriasis
Yes, me again! I have at the last count, psoriasis as well as MC. It's very mild and went undiagnosed as hidden in my scalp. However looking at wiki, it seems to be co morbid with UC and Crohns. Do significant number here have psoriasis too?
Yes, many members here have (or had) psoriasis. Virtually everyone discovers that after they remove all of their food sensitivities from their diet, not only do their MC symptoms resolve (or at least improve to a great degree), but their psoriasis, asthma, and various other autoimmune issues also typically fade away. Hopefully, some of the members here who have experienced this improvement will notice your post and respond with their own stories.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hello Greengoddess,
I have had psoriasis since 1973. However, after having left out casein and gluten from my diet, it disappeared after 2-3 months. Mine was so bad that the whole body was covered with scales, so I had to cover both arms and legs, also during summertime.
I look forward to hearing from you whether this also occurs to you once you have cut casein and gluten from your diet. Yes, I'm sorry but there is no other way around it...
I didn't know that psoriasis was co-morbid with UC and Crohn's.

Inflammation due to intolerances (both food and environmental type triggers) and deficiencies such as Vit D3, Magnesium etc.
Hence why removing your major triggers is worth the effort, the whole of your body benefits, not just your digestion.

I'd wondered about this and i managed to stumble across this
I wondered if there was a link with psoriasis. Im 46 years old, I had eczema from a young age to 20, then from 22 I had psoriasis until now, at times very severe. I suppose when your body's had it in for your from the start why just stop at the skin.

Jim,
Your body doesn't have it in for you.... It is talking to you, and now things are more chronic, it is screaming at you... STOP.... Stop causing inflammation, i need certain nutrients,
Listen to it, nature it,

I Know your right.
Your right, thing is I was aware of my food allergies many years ago but done nothing about them until all the recent diarrhea, Was told over 15 years ago in an allergy test, no gluten, lactose or caffeine just to name a few but wasn't really bothered by my skin disorders, if i'd known then what would happen to my intestines I would've paid more attention.
Its quite funny that I've always either been ruled by my heart or my brain, now my guts are getting in on the act too.

You ignored the advice, and the events this week should be enough to tell you that it is time to put your heart and your brain into wellness...

Green goddess...........both psoriasis and MC are auto-immune diseases!
I started with eczema, migraine headaches and allergies at the age of nine after an life altering event.
Soon afterwards I was blighted with sinusitis and tonsillitis. My tonsils were removed at age twenty which helped not having bad throats.
The allergies started with grass, pollen and things I touched. My skin was sensitive to soap and many other things. If I touched something and touched my face or body a nasty red wheal appeared. I went into adulthood with a handful of allergies and eczema - as time went by the list of allergies increased to certain drugs, make-up, skin products etc. In 2005 I was finally diagnosed as having psoriasis not eczema and at the same time my joint and back pain was psoriatic arthritis. In 2010 I started with D and eventually figured it was gluten so I went gluten free. Last year I had my first GI serious problems and in June this year began having what I now know was an MC flare.
Throughout my life my back problem was treated in isolation to my skin condition. In hindsight, it appears I started psoriatic arthritis sometime in my late twenties but this was missed by because when I visited the dermatologist I never complained of back & joint pain - when I visited the orthopaedic specialist I never complained about my skin, sadly.

Just a thought
Just had a thought and excuse me if it's really stupid, at the very least I'm not going to get a Nobel prize in medicine for it.
However as these are both auto immune disorders , are drugs like cyclosporine & methotrexate , which are useful in psoriasis no use at all with MC?
Just a thought don't shoot me if its that obviously stupid and wrong.

not stupid or wrong
it is good that you are thinking about it
there are different types of inflammation -
ie MC has different clinical markers to other IBD's
and with different types of inflammation there are different triggers. albeit the immune system is reacting to the triggers and inflammation, hence why one med will not help all types of inflammation
and even in MC world, if you have read some of the posts here, why one med will work really well for one person, but cause chaos for another...
the other aspect with medication, they are mostly a bandaid, (this does not apply to all) they reduce the inflammation, they do not treat the root cause of the inflammation. They help to calm the inflammation down, not necessarily healing....
what we (we being the group here) have been figuring out is that inflammation is an indicator of nutritional imbalances, which is why things like Vit D3, Magnesium has helped ALOT of people here for a variety of inflammation issues, gut, skin, hormones, etc

Re: Just a thought
You are right - Humira, a drug used for psoriasis does make a difference to MC. I guess methotrexate and cyclosporine may do too. I'm not sure how widely used they are for MC though.Jimbo1968 wrote:Just had a thought and excuse me if it's really stupid, at the very least I'm not going to get a Nobel prize in medicine for it.
