Tex - antihistamine?
Good morning, Tex and everyone. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued support and wish you the happiest of holidays!
Tex, you posted about the availability of your favorite antihistamine, Chlorephen-12, so I ordered some on Amazon. I took your advise and didn't try it until the weekend to see how I react. Well, this is too strong for me! I spent 12 hours in another zone, so to speak. Should I try a weaker one?
But, wait there's more! For the next 2 days, I have had, not only Normans, but really hard ones. Can this be a coincidence? To be clearer, my poops have been well formed but on the soft side for the last 2 weeks, but these were decidedly different. Since I started the diet, 3+ months ago, I have taken 1/2 benadryl at night and Allegra 180mg every morning, so there has been antihistamines in my system. Could the Chlorephen be that different than the other anithistamines?
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. But I know that a lot of people are pretty busy the next couple of days. When you get around to it, would be great. Thanks!

Dear Hopeful,
I ordered this as well and have been solid solid!! I think I'm going to start taking them every other day.
I also want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I'm sooooo thankful for this site and each and everyone of you.
I took a 3 day trip to the Greenbrier in WV with some lady friends and did really well, no problems. On another note, my mother in law is in the last stages of dying and we've been staying with her and I've also been working. Through all of the stress I have been fine (cannot believe it).
It's all because of you, my friends!
Happy and Healthy Holidays,
Connie

I'm pretty sure that the Chlorephen-12 (chlorpheniramine maleate) was probably responsible for the changes you noticed, because I have always found it to be much more effective for me (for controlling pollen allergies) than the second generation antihistamines that are so heavily promoted these days. Allegra is promoted as being effective for 24 hours, but it doesn't last anywhere near that long for me. On the other hand, the Chlorephen-12 is sold as a 12-hour product, but I find that 12 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate works effectively for me for a full 24 hour day, provided that I take it before mid-morning (when the pollen begins to fly). Of course the big disadvantage is that it's not a non-drowsy product. However most users report that it's much less likely to cause drowsiness than Benedryl. I've never found drowsiness to be a significant side effect of chlorpheniramine maleate.
The regular 4-hour version contains one-third of the amount of the active ingredient (4 mg), compared with the 12-hour version (12 mg). You might find it easier to tolerate. With many medications, dosage doesn't matter much, as long as one takes at least the minimum required amount. For those meds, a double or triple dose may not work any better than a regular dose. With antihistamines though, dosage definitely matters. The stronger the dose, the greater the effect. It sounds as though a lower dose might work better for you. The 4-hour version is also lactose-free, which is another advantage.
Thanks to both you and Connie for sharing your experience and your insight for this product.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I have found the chlorpheniramine really good. I like the 4mg dosage.
If I am going out to do gardening work, 1 x 4mg tablet is enough to protect me for that few hours...
Without blocking things totally for 12 hours....
Thus far, my BM has been norman the days after having it.
