Complete relapse

Post by Adele13348 »

After about 2 months of great success, I have completely fallen apart and am back to chronic diarrhea. Tried my safe foods and am still having D. We're on our way to Arizona for the winter (towing our fifth wheel) and this is NOT a good time to be having this problem. Anyone else have a relapse like this? I thought I had this figured out.

Hi Adele,

I'm sorry that you're having a relapse. It happens sometimes, and most of the time (in a situation such as yours), stress is the trigger. Or it can be triggered by a combination of stress and diet problems. If you have any Entocort left over from a previous prescription, now is the time to take it, to simplify the rest of your trip.

If you don't have any Entocort, Imodium can slow things down so that you have to make fewer unplanned stops. And for some of us, an antihistamine works almost as well as Entocort, though you might have to double the dose (by taking it twice a day instead of only once a day).

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Tex. I think you're right about the stress. This is our first trip to the SW for the winter. I'm taking Imodium and pepto but tomorrow we'll arrive at our destination so I hope things will start settling down. BTW, we drove the last two days thru Texas and it was a real education. Really liked what we saw of El Paso and would like to spend some time there. Loved the wind farms ( can you tell I'm from the NE?)

Hi Adele,
Sorry to hear about your relapse. Towing a trailer was one of the most stressful things I've ever done!! But I had a bumper pull and I know that with a big truck a fifth wheel tows nicely..

Anyway, are you going to Quartzite? Just wondering, I've always wanted to go there...

I road trip a lot on I 10 thru TX and pretty much live on bacon when I can get it. Or a plain burger. Sometimes a breakfast taco on a corn tortilla.

Have you used Entocort, or another prescription med? Or did you achieve remission thru diet?

Best wishes for happy camping and recovery.

Adele,

It's been over 35 years since I've been to El Paso, so I probably wouldn't even recognize it now. There were no wind turbines back then. They have really changed the appearance of West Texas over the past 20 years. A 10 megawatt solar energy facility was also scheduled to be built in El Paso in 2014. If I recall correctly, it was supposed to be completed by the end of the year, so it may be in production by now.

There's a very good chance that you are right. After you arrive and get everything set up to your liking, and have some time to relax and unwind, the adrenaline should slow down, and your digestive system should begin to settle down again.

With any luck at all, you should have a very enjoyable (and warm) experience in AZ.

Well, we made it to Arizona and I'm wrapped up on a blanket, it's so cold. We heard it was -9 this morning in NY so I shouldn't complain about 50 here. Just wanted to let you know that I have been much better yesterday and today. Thanks again for your help.

Yes, enjoy that 50* weather, we are freezing here in Ky.

So glad to see you made it safe and hope you continue to improve.

That's good news that you're doing better, and you've safely arrived. One of the reasons why I like living in Central Texas is because of the warm weather, but it was 18 degrees this morning.

Thanks for the update, and I hope it warms up there.
