The methylation information was probably the most useful for that purpose (but even more important for my health in general). The most critical information may be discovering that I have a gene mutation that prevents me from being able to properly metabolize Plavix (since I take it for stroke prevention). The most interesting information is probably the discovery that one of my gene mutations makes me effectively immune to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (mad cow disease), so I can eat all the brains I want (as if I want to do that ), without fear of developing the disease.Deb wrote:What information from it did you find the most useful for your MC?
I can see how they might want to withhold their interpretation of the test results, but unless I am mistaken, it's illegal for them to withhold a patient's own medical information, including both test results and doctor's notes, (or withholding test results of a minor from a parent).Deb wrote:My son has already given samples to Mayo for genetic testing but they will not share the information at this time.
Doesn't the Mayo use "mychart" to allow patients to access all their medical information over the Internet? If not, they are behind the times, because most hospitals and clinics appear to have already made that available to their patients.
Isn't implementation of that option a requirement of the Health Care Reform Bill?
