root canal at 3:00

Post by hazel »

Well, I guess we're trying to save the tooth. My first root canal.
Maybe it won't be too bad....

I had one once and it wasn't too too bad. My biggest problem is my fear of dentists - the actual work is never really that bad and with all the technology we have these days it shouldn't even hurt while the procedure is being done.

Hoping all goes well and smooth for you today!

Hugs

It will be ok...I have had one before. Don't drink thru any straws after wards. It will cause dry socket...far worse than any procedure the dentist can do. Love Oma

The root canal went fine--a painless but loooong procedure. Because my tooth has a crack though, the endodontist only gives it a 50-50 chance of success, as opposed to 98% for most root canals. Oh well.

Thanks for the support and advice! Next step is a temporary cap. And lunch with Alice.

Hi Hazel/Kathy. I'm glad your procedure went well. And even though 50/50 odds probably aren't what you want to hear, at l least there's an even chance to save your tooth. You definitely did the right thing! I had my first root canal back around 1975 and still have the tooth (actually the cap, which I finally had to replace last year).

Good luck and take care!

Love,
Carrie

Hi, my Cincinnati friend!

So glad THATS over with and wasn't too painful. When do you get the cap put on? When can you enjoy eating again? So many questions, I know.

Too bad about the 50-50 chance. I hope you beat the odds.

Whew! Bet you're glad that's over. Hope the pain is much better now.

Love,

Polly

Well, it is still very painful. Once the novocaine wore off I was worse off than before. I was supposed to get a temporary cap on the tooth (the endodontist is worried about the crack and sawed the tooth down to something of a nub) today or Monday, but my dentist can't fit me in 'til a week from next Tuesday. Until then no chewing. I don't know if the current pain is from the abcess or the root canal.

On a happy note, my younger son and his girlfriend of 8 years got married tonight. Yea! He called her father on the way into the courthouse to ask for her hand in marriage. What romantics! I am very happy for them.
