Depression an Allergic Reaction to Inflammation?

Post by MBombardier »

This is interesting, and so many of us struggle with anxiety/depression that I decided to post the link here and see what you think:

http://www.feelguide.com/2015/01/06/new ... lammation/
New research is revealing that many cases of depression are caused by an allergic reaction to inflammation. Tim de Chant of NOVA writes: “Inflammation is our immune system’s natural response to injuries, infections, or foreign compounds. When triggered, the body pumps various cells and proteins to the site through the blood stream, including cytokines, a class of proteins that facilitate intercellular communication. It also happens that people suffering from depression are loaded with cytokines.” Inflammation is caused by obesity, high sugar diets, high quantities of trans fats, unhealthy diets in general, and other causes.

Hi Marliss,

I certainly wouldn't argue with that. That's presumably why MC is typically accompanied by depression.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Yes, I read in an article by a professor in gastroenteorology that people with IBD often are being accused of being depressed and neurotic, but as soon as they are in remission, they become the same old person that they used to be prior to the disease.

So, we don't get IBD because we are depressed or neurotic, it doesn't sit between the ears. We get depressed because we have an inflammation.

Why are doctors so eager to define the "mysterious" illnesses they don't understand, as psychological issues?

So they can prescribe a bunch of medications that the health system tells them to - so that big pharma can make their billion dollar profits!
