Gluten tests

Post by Nbupp »

I had the normal blood work and scratch tests for food sensitivities and there were none. Then the GI did another colonoscopy and endoscopy and biopsied all. The endoscopy biopsy showed no gluten intolerance. Do I still need a stool sample taken from enterolabs?

Hey there Nannykay

Many here have had blood tests for celiac and food sensitives and not had reliable results. the antibodies of a inflammation reaction are not as well tracked in blood.

The villi may have been in reasonable state during the colonscopy but that is not a reliable source of gluten intolerance. What sort of testing was done on the biopsy? do you have a copy of the pathology results.

thus far for majority of people here, the stool testing by enterolabs was the most accurate indicator of major intolerance's, especially in relation to MC/IBD type reactions and inflammation. The two things that affect the integrity of enterolab testing is if you have take steroids for a period of time, or if you do not produce sufficient IgA

Tex can provide more enhanced science explanation all of this.

At the time of Dx, I could not afford the Enterolab testing, based on the learnings of people here, I removed all the major triggers and followed an elimination diet to then test and confirm my major and medium level triggers. This process took me about 6-9 months.

Hope this helps

Hi Nannykay,

As Gabes said, the antibodies produced by the immune system in response to food sensitivities are generated and released in the intestines, not in the blood. The members of this discussion board have found that the stool tests offered by EnteroLab are the only tests available (anywhere in the world) that are accurate and reliable for detecting the type of food sensitivities that we have with MC.

You can change your diet and control your symptoms without the EnteroLab tests, but they make recovery so much easier by removing any questions about whether or not you are actually sensitive to certain foods.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
