Great article.
My dad was diagnosed as pre diabetic last year. His new doctor blamed the low fat diet he was on and told him to eat more meat! The change is amazing. He hasn't developed diabetes and he was able to get off of his cholesterol meds.
I'm so glad that there are doctors who are willing to challenge standard treatments.

Nice article!
Another two cardiologist that I've followed have mentioned asking their patients to eat similar as the Doctor in the article mentions. The two have seen remarkable results.
Cardiologist Dr. Agaston, famous as the author for The South Beach diet has mentioned his patients have almost stopped experiencing heart attacks.
High risk prevention cardiologist Dr. Davis, best know for his book Wheat Belly, has a more detailed heart disease prevention program. It not only involves eating less carbs, avoiding wheat, omega 6 fats, but also addressing other risk factors. For example he asks patients to correct thyroid issues, elevated LpA levels, low vitamin D levels, etc. He has commented that his patients have stopped experiencing cardiac events. Oh, there seems to be a heated battle going on between two camps on how best to prevent heart disease. On the one side are those wanting to keep things the same, with cholesterol testing, open heart surgery, stents, etc. On the other are those that believe newer, better ways to prevent heart disease, much as mentioned in the above article, have been found. I imagine this debate will be with us for a long time.Gabes-Apg wrote:one small step by a specialist, is giant leap for medical fraternity?
He seems to have taken a break for awhile due to the birth of a daughter, but Dr. Briffa on his sight was often writing about the discussion. One of his bits on this, a few months back.
"How do statin proponents deal with debate? They stifle it."

In your country of Australia there has been a TV show that has touched on the debate. Your channel ABC has run a couple specials about cholesterol and statin drugs not being helpful at preventing heart attacks. That ruffled feathers in the old camp.
Saw recently that Dr. Maryanne Demasi of ABC The Catalyst created a new show - this time touching mainly on low carb eating and its beneficial health effects.

I thought it was good viewing.
Another take on Dr Lundell

Hardly a world renowned heart surgeon. He lost his medical license due to malpractice. It is not that I disagree with his advice but his self-promotion seems a little suspect to me.

I have trouble with Barrett and Quackwatch too but Dr Lundell has lost his license to practice medicine:Deb wrote:I have issues with Steven Barrett and Quackwatch. His self promotion is suspect to me. Deb
Professional Misconduct (11/14/2008)
Action Taken: Revocation
Summary: Dr. Dwight Carl Lundell; License # 6960
Nature of Complaint:
The board established that the physician failed to maintain adequate medical records in the physician's operative report of a patient. The physician also failed to cool the patient's anterior wall which was harmful to the patient's health and resulted in the death of the patient. The board also established that another patient died as a result of the physician's failure to order blood type and cross match the patient and obtain O-negative blood prior to proceeding with surgery. The physician also failed to initiate insulin infusion during another patient's surgery and monitor the patient's sternal wound closely after the physician saw evidence of infection. The board also took into consideration the physician's ten year disciplinary history with the board.
Action Taken:
The board has Revoked the physician's license to practice allopathic medicine in the State of Arizona and shall pay hearing administrative costs.
State: Arizona
Lundell just doesn't seem like a credible source to me. There are a lot of other more cerdible sources out there. I actually agree with what he says. I just don't want to be promoting him.
