Eggciting News

Post by UkuleleLady »

It's not really exciting but I wanted to make a pun.

So, there is a local duck farm that sells eggs in grocery stores here in Austin as well as the farmers market, but I've been unable to find their eggs for months now. First I was told it was too warm, and the ducks weren't laying; now I'm told it's too cold, and the ducks aren't laying...sound like some capricious creatures.

So I found quail eggs at the Asian supermarket. 12 for $1.75 and that's pricey as roughly four quail eggs equals a chicken egg :) they're very cute but tricky to crack.

And so yesterday I tested them in some pumpkin pancakes made with sorghum and millet flours. Everything fine this morning.

Today I had a breakfast taco on a corn tortilla with bacon and quail egg. It was delicious, and I'm hopeful I won't react. I will keep you posted.

Cheers, friends.

Nancy, hopefully you won't react. The breakfast tacos you mention sound good. I haven't tried corn tortillas yet, but am tempted.

Thanks for sharing the eggciting news. Spell check did not like that word. I'm inspired to look for some of those eggs.

Ducks are really fun to keep, but hardly reliable egg layers. You just have to accept them for their fun factor (just add water and PARTY!!) and their awesome slug control.

That said, when they do lay, the eggs are great. I especially like them hard boiled (not overcooked) - one egg makes a meal all by itself.

I haven't ventured too far into eggs since the institution of the strict diet, but hope that spring will bring some duck eggs my way...

Good to know!! I was telling my hubs that maybe we could get a couple of ducks when we move out of the city. I will remember to accept them as fun pets first, potential egg source second :)

Hope all has gone well with the quail eggs!

I've known for awhile that regular store bought chicken eggs are a stomach churning problem for me. One day I found eggs that had been raised differently. It was said their feed was coconut meal of all things. It tried them, ate many of the coconut eggs, and didn't react. I became nervous though, and stopped eating them. Figured I'll try the eggs again in the future, once my diet is more figured out.

Update: I had WD this morning... could be something else, or it could have taken me a few days to react.

I also have a lot of family stress right now (dying sister, divorcing sister) so it could be that as well as lying awake at night in worry and panic.

So I guess I'll retest in a baked good when I am back to norman (my norman) and go from there. It could be a fried egg is just over the top for me.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi Nancy,

This is just a guess of course, but IMO serious stress can trump the best of treatment programs. I'm sorry all those things are happening, but I suspect that your symptoms may be related.

Sorry there is stress around.... Hard to avoid in situations like that.

Maybe the quail eggs are sometimes foods.... 1-2 times a week.
Hope they can stay in the eating plan.

Take care

Thanks guys, you're the best. Ever helpful and kind.

Maybe they are a sometimes food, and as far as my sisters I know everything will work out one way or another. I have to keep my faith and continue redirecting my thoughts.

Love,
Nancy
