Today I Heard Words I Never Expected To Hear From A Doctor

Post by tex »

Those words were:
I read your book and I agree with everything in it.

But the truly gratifying part was that those words were spoken by none other than my own doctor. Is that awesome or what? What are the odds against me finding such a doctor? They have to be astronomical.

No, he's not a GI specialist, and no, he doesn't have MC himself, but his son has Crohn's disease and his daughter has celiac disease. So the entire family follows a grain-free, dairy-free diet. He's been my doctor for a couple of years now, but I had never met him previously, as strange as that may seem.

Like most of us here, I'm not a big fan of waiting in lines, or waiting 2 or 3 months for a doctor's appointment. So whenever I called for an appointment, the choice was between waiting a couple of months to see him, or seeing his PA within a day or so (or sometimes even the same day). So naturally I've been seeing his PA every time. But today when I called, miracle of miracles, thanks to a last minute cancellation I was able to schedule an appointment for this afternoon, to actually see my doctor.

At any rate, the experience of finally meeting him was incredible and inspiring. Having a doctor who not only understands, but who follows a similar diet (even though he personally doesn't have to) is downright awesome, IMO.

Actually, I wanted to use a different subject line for this post. I originally intended to use the title, "Today I Met The Most Awesome Doctor In The World". But I'm aware that probably more than a few members here may have interpreted some of the diatribes I've posted against certain GI docs who have severely mistreated some of the members here, to imply that I have a general bias against all medical professionals. That's not true of course, but I can certainly see how that might appear to be the case. So anyway, in order to prevent widespread fainting among such members who might read this post, I thought I'd better tone down the title a bit.

My vision of a perfect world for MC patients would be one where everyone would have such a doctor.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Tex,

That is wonderful to hear! Maybe we should all give our doctors a copy of your book.

Great news Tex. He's seen it work in his own family. You can't get evidence much more convincing than that. Did you discuss the Enterolab testing with him? I'm interested to know if he accepts it as valid.

Brilliant news and I think everyone on here should buy their doctor's :doctor: a copy of the book and spread the word. We have global reach and seriously, considering how little it would cost each of us, think about how many doctors that would reach ACROSS THE WORLD!!! :earth2: I have already bought two copies - one for my GP and the other for my Consultant. Can we not have a campaign to encourage everyone to follow suit? We surely are a powerful forum :barbell: and we should be shouting out - "Hey Guys, listen to us because we KNOW about this disease and the impact it has on our everyday lives." I appreciate that maybe Tex can't advocate this course of action as it would be seen to be self promoting but we as members can take action!

I vote for this action. What say the rest of you?

Tex,

That is awesome!! Perhaps you get something in writing from him to put in the next edition of your book? How about putting this as a sticky for new members so they can see that an MD agrees with the dietary approach.

Entirely awesome!
Well done, Tex. I know your book is great, so glad at least one doctor thinks so too.
I see your Vit. D book is on Amazon. Will your book on preventing Alzheimers/Dementia (apologies if I have stated that wrong) be available there soon?
Thanks for your advice and support.

That's wonderful to hear! Did he ask for an autograph?

I think a few doctors are becoming more used to the internet, with information patients learn, such as this sight. My father has commented that his newer doctor really works with him. Dad brings in health papers he reads, or I send him. Typically his doctor has been receptive wanting to help. It's been a new experience.
