I would like to point out my episode of increased bone loss during my unstable phase of MC and again remind new readers that finding a level of stability is a difficult and important goal.
I had bone loss testing before "the great flood of MC" and the results were good. I was tested again after my most acute phase and I had lost a considerable amount of bone. Follow-up tests (uring, blood, etc.) ordered by an endocrinologist indicate that I am not currently losing bone. So, being that I had testing prior to and after the acute phase of my illness, I can say that I experienced considerable bone loss during the several months of my acute phase.
If you are new to microscopic colitis, reduce your learning phase by buying Tex's book. In the meantime, scan this board to learn the basic foods that people eat during early recovery; meat is big, often sweet potatoes and rice work too. Find out what foods hold most people back and eliminate them completely (gluten, dairy, soy, etc.) you can always try them later if you feel the need. Learn what it means to truely eliminate a food.
I learned from the wonderful people on this board that coconut is often tolerated and it's a big part of my diet now. I use Silk coconut beverage, found in the dairy section of supermarkets. It's high in calcium and vitamin D. It's very good in gluten-free, soy-free cereal and I've learned to like it in coffee. Sweet potatoes, winter squash, an other cooked squashes are a big part of my diet now. Over time, I have added foods but it took time!
During my acute phase, I was so foggy that I very often forgot to take multivitamins and calcium. It's worth remembering! Many brands are soy-free and gluten-free now.
Calming the gut is top priority. You will need good information and strong will. It pays off.
