new here! precancerous polyp/diet/inflammation questions

good evening!

someone recommended this site to me and i am thrilled to have stumbled upon it. i just had my second colonoscopy (at only 34) and they recently found two precancerous polyps that were removed.
i have not been diagnosed with colitis but have suffered from:

- chronic constipation (my entire life)
- bloating after i eat
- fatigue
- itchy legs (for months, then suddenly it goes away)
- random new food issues (for example - i ate an apple the other day and my throat was closing-up immediately and i pretty much needed to drink a bottle of benadrly)

i have been to GI's, derms, immunologists, you name it - i have seen them.
my new GI just found these two precancerous polyps and now I'm very concerned. I'm so young. have kids and really don't want to die.

i have visited a homeopathic doctor who did applied kinesiology and said i was intolerant to sugar, wheat, and the wine i tested (which is bad because i really love my wine). i felt great for several months on her clean-diet and ended up becoming pregnant and basically fell off the clean-diet bandwagon.

does this sound like anything that any of you have suffered from? do you think i can get rid of precancerous polyps (or stop the growth of new ones) before my next scope in three years with dietary changes?

Very confused, I had polyps (and removals) for two colonoscopies. Since eliminating gluten and adding Vitamin D I haven't had any more. Deb

i just went to a new medical doctor who ordered to test my vitamin d levels. i am interested to see what they are.

i always test negative for celiac, although i do know about gluten intolerances/sensitivities

Welcome to our Internet family. Yes, I had lifelong constipation before my MC symptoms began.

Deb is right on target. Research proves that vitamin D prevents colon cancer. Our experience on this board suggests that the way that vitamin D prevents cancer is by preventing the development of polyps. Other members here have had the same experience as Deb.

I'm guessing that your vitamin D level is low. Please don't try to increase it by taking the small amounts that are recommended by the official government guidelines. It takes much more than that to resolve a deficiency in a reasonable amount of time. Your test result should be available in a few days, and that will make it easier to figure out an appropriate supplement dose.

Bloating is usually a sign or a food intolerance or low stomach acid. At your age you shouldn't have low stomach acid, so the most likely suspect is (as you suspect) gluten. Virtually all of us here are sensitive to gluten, and most of us have to avoid dairy products, also.

The itching issue you mentioned suggests that you might have mast cell activation disorder (MCAD). Many of us have it associated with MC, but it's also possible to have it without MC. Please read the short articles at the following links to help you decide if mast cells might be causing your symptoms.

When I was young I had horribly itchy legs, scratching until bloody. The itching suddenly stopped and I don't know why. Every colonoscopy I had found polyps. I had always been told I had "colitis", painful gas relieved by defecation.

After being diagnosed with CC and celiac sprue, over a period of time I began a modified Paleo diet. Since then, no more polyps and greatly reduced gas and abdominal discomfort. Each of us has to find the diet that works best. Enterolab testing, genetic test for celiac and Tex's book will help you heal more quickly than anything else. Be patient, healing takes time.

thank-you for all of this wonderful information!!!

i have tested negative three times for celiac; the itching - uncontrollable. bleed...scars all over legs - its awful.

this month - not one itchy. makes no sense and my diet is no cleaner/unhealthier than it is on other days.
i am going back to my holistic/natropath tomorrow. has anyone ever heard of applied kinesiology and feel that it's accurate?

Like any practitioner (doctor / specialist / functional doctor / naturopath / acupuncturist / etc ) there are some fantastic ones, some good ones, and some bad ones.... the quality of the treatment and the benefits you get from it can depend on the quality of the practitioner...

my experience is that MC is not the same as other IBD's, so the treatment protocols they apply may not work the same.

Majority of the people here have tested negative to the blood test for celiac, yet do 200 times better when they remove gluten from their diet. The gluten has to do a fair amount of damage to the gut before it shows up as an issue in the blood stream...

Welcome! Have you tried taking an OTC antihistamine? If you get some relief from your symptoms when you take one, you probably do have a mast cell/histamine issue. If I were in your shoes, I would clean up my diet right away. That is the most important thing you can do to heal your gut and feel better. Most of us can't eat any gluten. Dairy and soy follow close behind. Sugar is known to cause bloat…. that includes fructose from fruit. When you heal your gut, you may be able to add the fruit back in.
