Bad reaction to antibiotics

Post by Greengoddess »

Having contracted a respiratory infection which is everywhere I was told to take an antibiotic called Klacid. ( possible pnemomia) Also those liquid lemssip things with paracetamol and Innalers One or other of them have had an instant and awful effect. Itching burning down below and the old GERD flaring massively. I notice now that the lemsip has sucrose and aspartame in it. Has anyone had reactions like this to antibiotics before? I have to say that for the first time I read tex' description of mast cell reactions the oesophageal burning and throat congestion is almost like that. Is that why this particular symptom is episodic? I must be eating a substance which had an immediate effect. Also my vertigo worsens at thse times. I see speculation that it may also be an AI disease! It's been there 40 years. It seems that gluten may cause some symtoms and the other mysterious substance the upper gastric ones. Sorry if I'm confusing. I AM confused! And a teensy bit scared

I'm sorry that you're having all those symptoms. Yes, it's very common for us to have adverse reactions to antibiotics, and many of us (probably most of us) cannot tolerate aspartame.

It does sound as though you may be having an allergic reaction to something. Maybe you are allergic to one of the ingredients in the inhaler or one of the other medications that you are taking.

You might ask your pharmacist for his or her opinion on them. Maybe they have a different brand or a different type that is made for people who are allergic to the type that you are using.

If you have a respiratory infection, that will cause throat congestion that is usually worse than the congestion that we usually get from a food that causes us to react. Clarithromycin (Klacid) is a potent antibiotic, and it can cause all sorts of side effects, such as diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, motion sickness, etc. It should eliminate your infection, though.

I hope you feel better soon.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
