Tex, need help!

Post by Lucy »

What's the matter when, all of a sudden, the keyboard can't get the screen to accept another character, and it's just sort of frozen in suspended animation no matter what you do?

Each time this happens, I end up losing the whole message in the attempt to continue it.
Next time, should I just go off and do something, and come back? Problem with that is that is that I don't have that much time to sit here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated?
Yours, Luce

Hi Luce,

In a situation such as that, (where the keyboard is unresponsive), about 99% of the time, either the keyboard plug has a bad connection, (try jiggling it), or a key is stuck on the keyboard. It's easy to overlook a stuck key, if it's stuck part way down. If a key is stuck, often, striking another key will do goofy things on the screen. When the connection is bad, it won't do anything.

If the "Lockup" occurs while you are trying to submit a post, the odds are high that your line connection with your ISP has failed, and your ISP has stopped responding. This is fairly common with phone line connections, and it happens to me somewhat regularly, out here in the country. When it happens, I just click on "Disconnect", and then when the computer prompts to reconnect, I let it reconnect. I don't normally lose any post that I might be working on at the time, though I might have to hit the "Back" button on the browser to find it. I have no idea how that would work with WebTV, though.

I hope this solves your problem,

Wayne
