SWEET TOOTH
Hi all
I began my elimination diet Friday so this is day 3. I am keeping a food diary and recording reactions as they occur. One question for those with LC when I feel like something sweet to eat instead of heading for the chocolate bar what would you recommend.

I am a sweet tooth as well!
- small serve of jelly (the gelatin is good for gut healing)
- I put raw cacoa powder with small amount of coconut sugar in my rice protein shake - this gives enough of a chocolate taste to appease the sweet tooth
- the lindt 85% dark chocolate is soy free and dairy free - few squares eaten slowly are a fantastic treat
- half apple juice / half water
there are lots of paleo recipes for coconut/cacoa treats.... if you google paleo desert you will get some ideas

The other good news is that your sweet tooth greatly diminishes when you eat mostly meat and veggies. I find that the more carbs, like potatoes and rice, that I add to my diet, the more my sweet tooth awakens. But, I'm with Gabes, a little VERY dark Lindt chocolate really does the trick. I like the 90%!
Hi Gabes are you talking about a protein shake made with rice milk what else do you put in it. I am missing my kale,pineapple,mango and chia green drinks have to give them a miss for a while. I went to my granddaughters christening today took my own boiled pot, meat and boiled quinoa for lunch and did not eat any lemon slice I made. Although I have been and had D at 6.30am this morning my tummy today is feeling good and only been once. I just need to be strong and keep going. Thanks for all your help I just made up some jelly!!

that is great news your tummy is on the improve and toilet visits are reducing! woo hoo!
well done for taking your own safe food! socialising will get easier ... and once you get the tummy settled and healed a bit, things dont have to be soo bland.
reduced symptoms is worth the effort!
Wray organic at newmarket used to have EzyProtein Rice Protein (as i react badly to Soy i cant have any pea or whey based protein)
I now buy it online direct from manufacturer (cheaper too) www.ezyprotein.com I mix this with raw cacao, stevia, some coconut sugar, coconut water and some rice milk.
fantastic on a hot day, great for days out or working lunches, etc...
works out about $3 a serve, which is pretty cheap for MC safe snack/meals!!!
when socialising, I modify the Orgran brand of cakes mixes etc enhance them a bit with coconut oil, cocoa butter, lindt dark chocolate. The orgran chocolate brownie mix is pretty good with these enhancements - use nuttelex as a butter replacement.
ALDI have a pretty good 'Has No' range that is gluten, dairy and soy free. (there were on special this week for celiac week)
when ever I make the items, people are shocked they are gluten, dairy and soy free!!
Some of the health food shops might have CocoDelicious Coconut Ice Cream - it is gluten, dairy and soy free. They are expensive but i have tried to make my own and it is much easier to buy it!! There is also some coconut yoghurt that some places stock that is also gluten, dairy and soy free. (trying to remember who on the northside used to stock it...)
I have also adjusted some of my normal recipes to be gluten, dairy and soy free - the trick is to increase the liquid amount by 1/3 using a bit of coconut oil, cocoa butter smooths out the 'roughness' of using gluten free flours.

ohhh and in coles on the bottom shelf in the gluten free section - have some sue shephard GF/DF/SF/EF lollies....

I was just saying to my hubby I just went to the loo at 7pm after dinner and it was the most normal since August last year. It could be the sulvazine I am on as well as me eating bland food. I did have a peach this arvo with no skin that seemed to be ok. I love fruit so it is hard for me not to eat it especially paw paw. I seem to be ok with soy as I had a soy chino this morning and it stayed there but I tend to have the almond/coconut unsweetened UHT milk if I have GF weetbix. I had 2 ALDI GF coconut bikkies also today and they seemed to stay. I will just keep eating as bland as I can and take the meds for 6 weeks and hopefully improve slowly. Thanks so much you have been such a great help your amazing!!!

I agree, the best cure for a sweet tooth is to eliminate the higher carb foods. Hi Karen. I know that it is best to keep your sweet tooth at bay, but I also believe life is a little bit better with some sweets :) When I was healing, I would buy canned peaches and pears that were packed in juice ( at the beginning, I didn't drink the juice). Unsweetened Apple sauce worked also.
Now, I eat dark chocolate. I can also eat a small amount of Jellybellies. I was a pastry chef back in the day and have gotten pretty good at GF/DF baking. My pumpkin bread is very yummy. I have also made GF " Krispie treats" that EVERYONE likes even better than the original. I use Rice Chex instead of Rice Krispies ( a cup extra actually) and substitute coconut oil for the butter. Marshmallows seem to be fine with me. And I have to say that the best GF brownie mix is from "1 2 3 gluten free" brand. King Arthur's is also pretty good. I either use melted coconut oil or safflower. King Arthur also has the best pancake mix which I make with coconut oil and almond milk. Then I eat it with Real Maple Syrup. yum. If you are not healed enough for some of these things yet, then ou have something to look forward to.
