Mast cell reaction?
Last Thursday I drank what I thought was a harmless smoothie with strawberries, blueberries and "frozen yogurt ". For whatever reason I had a quite intense reaction which involved my eyes watering and what can only be described as neuralgic pains in my ears and scalp. Also sore throat. I have had these symptoms before and thought they must be a gastric reflux. Now reading something from Tex on mast cell reactions this is what it sounds like. God knows what was in that drink. Maybe it's too much citrus at one go. Bananas don't have any effect. These reactions are not the same as gluten ones either. In the end I took a sub lingual steroid which dissolves under your tongue. It toned down some of the symptoms.
That does sound as though it could have been a mast cell reaction. If it should happen again, try taking an ordinary antihistamine. If taken soon enough, it should stop the symptoms from developing.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
