like many things in MC world - some can tolerate psyillium, and others it causes major grief...
if items are too fibrous they can be more of an irritant at certain stages of the inflammation
small amounts of ground up psyillium might work ok...
my suggestion with any item (food item or supplement etc) start with really small amount, have small amount for 3 days, if there are no major reactions, increase a bit more for 3 days.

So funny you should post that today... I've been reading about psyllium husks all day and took a small amount twice today. When I logged onto this site just now and saw the subject line of your post it caught me off guard and I had wondered if I had posted it and forgot... I actually looked at the "originator" to see if it were me!
I agree with Gabes.... the answer is probably "It depends". If you're trying to treat the D of colitis, I'm not sure if it will help or make things worse, but if the D is caused by IBS, then I can attest that it DOES (or at least did) work for me. When I was a teenager (40 years ago) I was diagnosed with Spastic Colon (which is now called IBS) my primary doc suggested tranquilizers but I hated the idea of being on tranqs at 17 years old. I went to see another doctor and he suggested I try taking "unprocessed bran" which I was able to find at a health food store. He warned me that my D would be worse for a week or two but then it would start to work and help. And it did. I continued to take two tablespoons of it in orange juice every day for many, many years.
So, since I've been having a flare up lately but starting to suspect that it's NOT my colitis (it feels different, behaves differently, etc.) I wonder if it's IBS. So I pulled out my container of psyllium husks and had a teaspoon this morning and a teaspoon this afternoon. So far, so good.
As with most anything with these issues, it's pretty much a "try it and see". Good luck!

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!
