Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but there is no Imodium AD to be found. It's not anywhere near me and not online either. I called the company, and they claim they are having "distribution problems". They assured me that it has not been discontinued, but I am suspicious. They said they will notify me when it is back on the shelves.
There is plenty of a new Imodium available - one that contains simethicone for gas, but I have always done well with the original and that's what I would prefer.
The generics do not measure up - they contain offensive ingredients like lactose.
This is a product that is so helpful to MCers - no matter what stage of recovery we are in. No matter how well my MC is controlled I always have a few pills in my pocketbook wherever I go to use in case of emergency, like when eating out.
Does anyone know any more about this?

They say it's a packaging/shipping problem. Here's a link to a page that contains a "Product lLocator" link that supposedly will allow you to track down stores in your area that should have whichever product you're searching for in stock:

Well, never mind. When I check the drop down menu on that page, Imodium AD is not even listed (except in liquid form). That doesn't bode well.
As you probably recall, about 4 years ago, the FDA took over production facilities because of violations, and Imodium AD became unavailable for a while. Whatever it is, I hope it's not a permanent discontinuation of the product. That would be very bad news.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I just started taking one pill a day of the "new" stuff with the anti gas formula in it and was wondering myself where the original formula was. I don't like that it smells like vanilla and has the ingredient of "flavor" in it. I couldn't find on their website if there were other offending ingredients in there. I'm glad someone brought this up, thinking I was crazy. It's been three weeks and am down to two to three trips a day except when hormones strike, so I don't know if that helps anyone out there wondering whether to take it. Hopefully they bring it back!

The caplets should be OK (assuming that the "flavor" additives are safe). They contain these "generally safe" inactive ingredients:
Acesulfame potassium, croscarmellose sodium, dibasic calcium phosphate, flavor, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid.
However, the chewable tablets contain not only way too many unnecessary ingredients, but also milk powder and sorbitol:
Cellulose acetate, confectioner's sugar, D&C yellow #10 aluminum lake, dextrates, FD&C blue #1 aluminum lake, flavors, microcrystalline cellulose, milk powder, polymethacrylates, saccharin sodium, sorbitol, stearic acid, tribasic calcium phosphate.
Small amounts of sorbitol usually don't cause significant problems, but saccharin can cause problems for many/most of us, and milk powder is bad news for anyone who is sensitive to casein.

I spoke with someone from customer service again today. She said that the problem right now is due to a "manufacturer's update". I asked what this meant, and it appears that they have closed all machines (that make Imodium AD) down to do cleaning and other updates. Say what? I asked why they would shut down the entire process at once but she couldn't answer that.
Also, she claims that there is no way at all that she can find out what the "flavor" in the new Imodium Relief med is made from. Another say what? I explained that virtually every manufacturer nowadays can tell you what ingredients are in their product and that there are huge numbers of people with food sensitivities who need to know everything they are putting into their mouths. She insisted there is no way to know - I asked if she could speak with the chemists or someone from another unit and she said no.
This is crazy!!! What a way to run a business!

Hi Donna,
I couldn't find a list of the inactive ingredients. Do you have it? This product wouldn't be as helpful to me, as I often need only 1/2 to one caplet of the Imodium AD. The full 2mg in this gelcap would likely constipate me. Thanks for the info.

Hmmmm...... Doesn't make me real excited that the powers that be don't want to take the extra step to actually do their job. I'm already so untrusting and this does not help. I really appreciate that you are researching this Polly! I guess right now the alternative of not taking it is worse, life and job stressors, etc. After three weeks I don't seem to be any worse for wear, but I suppose the effect could be hidden by the actual active ingredient

I haven't been able to find Imodium A-D for years.
I've been using the Walgreens brand Anti-Diarrheal Loperamide HCl 2mg caplets. I break them in half, and usually only take a half.
Inactive ingredients are corn starch, D&C yellow #10 lake, dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, FD&C blue #1 brilliant blue lake, magnesium stearate, microcrystaline cellulose, silica gel.
I haven't experienced any problems with those inactive ingredients, although those of you sensitive to corn or food colors would not be able to use it. That leaves you out, I guess, Polly.
