Hi Guys
Well this being in denial has to stop. I hate some white fish tuesday night had a few spices and chilli in it spent all day yesterday at home and first time ever vomiting. I called my specialist and asked him could it be the medication he said "How would I know" stop taking them and come see me next week and I will put you on another drug. I know he is going to put me on steroids and I am not going to do that. I am not going back to him as he really has no idea how to treat LC. Gabe you mentioned in a last post a Naturopath in Brisbane that saved you can I please have the details as this is the road I am heading down. This disease is depressing me and I really do not want to live like this. It all seems a bit strange that all of my issues actually started after a colonoscopy last AUgust could this have caused my LC??? ANy help appreciated im desperate!!

my fabulous naturopath is my best friend, unfortunately she is not in private practise at the moment.
regardless, a still awesome solution for you is the acupuncturist i mentioned the other week- Shaun Price at Everton Park
Acupuncture is fantastic for nausea, vomitting, reducing inflammation and calming the digestion system. He will be able to provide some hints as to what might causing issues. Acupuncture also helps with mental and emotional side of things...
the practice may be closed on THursdays. my other friend, Evelin (who is also a trained naturopath) works the reception desk for Shaun. When you ring them, tell them you know me via the colitis forum...
of note - in the early days, spices and chilli would have been a huge issue for me. they are quite inflammatory/heating on the gut.
things will get better - for a while it is a 2 steps forward, 1 step back dance (bit like a weird time warp dance!!)

Evelin might also have some friends/colleagues that are practicing that she can recommend
My dear friend Maria (naturopath), Evelin and I all worked at Bullivants many years ago - they used to own Natures Own, Bio Organics Vitamin brands... we had quite a few naturopaths on staff that now might be in private practice.
What shaun knowns about LC, he learnt from treating me. I had been seeing him for many years prior to DX, and frequently post DX.
He is also really good with hormones etc so if there is a hormone connection to your MC issues he will be able to pinpoint this
(People that have failed at IVF, Shauno has helped to become pregnant and have healthy babies!!)
Shaun has also done some treatments on Joe (another member here) when Joe travelled to Australia.
The other thing is sticking to bland well cooked meals, (just salt avoid spices/herbs etc for now), lots of home made bone broth.... not easy in humid brissie summer, but is your best option at this stage. I was Dx'd in Dec 2009 and it was a big adjustment to give up salads, fruit etc. but it is the best option to minimise the inflammation and minimise symptoms....

Yes it could have. There are case studies that verify that normal, healthy patients have developed colitis after a colonoscopy procedure. The culprit of course is usually the cleanout solutions that are used prior to the exam. Those solutions are very caustic and they definitely inflame the mucosal tissue of the intestines. And in some cases, they cause enough inflammation to actually trigger LC, unfortunately. They also tend to flush out massive amounts of gut bacteria, and this in itself may be enough to cause a gut bacteria imbalance that could lead to colitis. Those are dirty little secrets that your GI specialist will probably never tell you.Karen wrote:It all seems a bit strange that all of my issues actually started after a colonoscopy last AUgust could this have caused my LC???
Certain products have even been removed from the market (at least in this country) because of this problem. And there are other risks. For example, a commonly used sterilizing solution for colonoscopes is known to cause colitis in some patients (plus it can kill gut bacteria).
COLONOSCOPY DANGERS – What You Need To Know* A common sterilant for colonoscopes (gluteraldehyde) has actually been proven to cause colitis. If you develop any of the following symptoms within 48 hours of having a colonoscopy, it’s likely the gluteraldehyde residues on the colonoscope are responsible: Cramps and abdominal pain, tenesmus (painful, urgent straining to defecate), rectal bleeding and in some cases, hemorrhaging.(2)
* Gluteraldehyde (the most commonly used disinfectant for colonoscopes) also cannot kill mycobacteria.

the other aspect is that Anesthetic can cause issues as well - it is linked to Mast Cell issues and can be linked to triggering Methylation issues.
The combo of the colonscopy prep and anesthetic could be trigger for LC
that with some of the other elements that contribute to LC starting, hormones, medications, major stress event,

Buscopan is an anti-apasmodic sometimes used to treat IBS. Occasionally it will help to relieve gut pain in some cases.

I used it years and years ago....
Prior to the MC Dx, i had episodes of cramping pain, like a birth contraction. Where I could barely stand when it was happening. I had these on and off for over 20 years. they had got worse in the years leading up to the MC Dx.
With the MC Dx removing major triggers and sticking to the bland eating plan, it eliminated the cramping pains
Rest, eating low inflammation meals, relaxation helped me more than buscopan.
more so - knowing what I know now about gut health and inflammation, Vit D3 and magnesium would be my recommendation.

if you are worried about the oral magnesium making the D worse, use magnesium spray..
http://www.ntshealth.com.au/magnesium-oil.html
if having oral magnesium, small doses through out the day can also minimise D issues..
