Yams

Post by Deanna »

I have been existing on meat and veggies: cruciferous, carrots, and yams. While i was on prenisone, my symptoms decreased. At first I handled the loss of prednisone well--still on budesonide--but symptoms are increasing and explosive D is getting more common, especially at night. I am exhausted.
Question: I eat a lot of yams because I like them. Anyone having issues with them?
I would hate to give them up because my diet is so restricted, and I am losing too much weght.

Personally, after 5 months on the diet, I can only eat cruciferous veggies very sparingly (once or twice a week). It's best if I eat them in the morning - at suppertime, I wake with terrible gas. When I have gas, I don't sleep well.

I have not had problems with white potatoes or sweet potatoes. I also eat carrots, winter squash, green beans. Once a day I have rice and I also eat rice crackers and rice cakes. I lost some needed weight but the addition of the carbs has enabled me to not lose too much.

Apples in all their forms seem to be gas producers for me. So, no applesauce or homemade apple wine. Bananas, in moderation, don't seem to bother.

Also, think about your proteins. Chicken doesn't work for me but all other meats seem fine.

Hope that you have luck tracking down your culprits! It can be so frustrating when you already have such a limited diet and you have to think about maybe giving up even more!

I eat a sweet potato almost every day and I don't have any issues. I can't eat cauliflower which I used to eat all of the time. It gives me gas. Our bodies are all different so you have to see how different foods affect you. I hope you find the trigger, I know how disheartening that is. Take care,

I eat yams every week look at the ingredients some contain artifical sweeteners (lactose) and if sugar bothers you stick to
sweet potatoes .Hope this helps.

I do well on Yams. It's like eating pumpkin pie without the crust. Why are we all so different? That's what drives me MAD about this disease.
