Hi Everyone,
Another question from me! My mother also has MC and she has been lucky enough to not have a flair up. She was diagnosed through a routine colonoscopy. She does have an issue however, that only happens every now again. She has a formed stool in the morning & then about an hour after has liquid leakage that she doesn't feel but is enough to go through her clothing. Does anyone else have this symptom? She has an appointment with her Gastro specialist but couldn't get in for a couple of months. Seems very strange when she doesn't have diarrhea.

It appears that MC is sometimes (maybe often) associated with nerve damage (to the enteric nervous system that controls the digestive system and communicates with the brain). It can cause crossed signals and compromised nerve function that results in loss of proper muscle control that leads to accidents of that type. To show you how powerful the effect can be, I posted about my experience with an MC flare due to a couple of kidney stones back in November. I still have a short stub of a colon (below where my sigmoid colon segment was removed over 10 years ago). The rest of my colon above the sigmoid section, and part of my terminal ileum, was removed over 5 years ago. So I now have an ileostomy.
So that stub, still connected to my anus, hasn't seen anything resembling food for over 10 years. And yet when the MC became activated, I had strong and urgent signals that I needed to defecate. Since I knew that it had been disconnected for almost 10 years at the time, I tried to just ignore it. But after I had a minor accident with some seepage, I stopped ignoring it. 
Over a period of 2 or 3 days, I had at least 4 or 5 urgent bowel movements totaling at least half a cup or more of mostly dried mucus, mixed with a little fresh mucus. But of course all of the actual D (from my small intestine) went into the ostomy pouch. So none of us is immune, even if we don't have a colon. 
I'll bet that you'll never read another (true) story like that on any other discussion board.
