Hi,
My question this time is not about my MC, but about my son's reoccuring flu's and coughing.
Since Christmas, my son (35 years old), a sportsman, skiing and bicycling and participating in all sorts of sports events, has had flus and a bad cough 5 times.
He had the kissing disease (mononucleosis) at the age of 18, (actually when he was an exchange student in the U.S.) and since then he has sort of never been his "old himself", when it comes to his health.
After he started all this exercising he gets sick all the time. I have told him to slow down after having gone through a flu, but he doesn't listen to his mother (typically).
But, even if he did, I'm sure that something is wrong. All his blood tests are excellent. Now his doctor has put him on asthma medicine (almost all professional Norwegian skiiers struggle with exercise-induced asthma). I don't approve of that, and have told him to eat more meat and downsize all the exercising.
Some years ago, I read an article in an Italian study, about constant coughing and the lack of iron, not only in women, but also in men. Is this a path to follow?
But, here I'm clueless. He is in his best age, and leading a healthy life, but struggling with constant flu.
What tests would it be smart to suggest in this case?
PS: His digestion is fine. I have asked him to quit cow's milk, which he has done.
Grateful for all advices :-)

Hi Lilja,
This may be way off base, but if all his blood test results are normal, I would consider a colonoscopy with biopsies. His experience reminds me of the way that my MC symptoms began. I thought I had a severe case of the flu. I got over it, but then after a while I had a relapse. And that happened over and over again for about a year or more, until one day the D started and wouldn't stop and I finally had to cave in and go to a doctor to see what was wrong.
My digestion was fine too, and I usually had Normans or constipation, until I reached the part of the cycle where the nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea resumed.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

My husband is very active and is in the same boat since ramping up his routine with martial arts on top of regular running and lifting. He had a cold/cough but kept exercising, now it's been a month and he's on antibiotics. Finally didn't go to martial arts class this week. Last week, there were days he would take two runs, one in the rain before his class. It's frustrating but he is going to do what he wants.
I know it's important for me to fully recover before working the body so vigorously in cold weather or in the rain. When I get back to running before I'm ready following a cold, I always relapse. It stinks because exercise is my mental fix, so it can be frustrating to rest.
But sometimes that's what my body tells me to do. I learned the hard way, like my husband and your son perhaps?
