Common Blood Tests Shown To Be Unreliable For Food Allergies

Post by tex »

Doctors are finally beginning to realize that the common blood tests used to detect food allergies, are not accurate enough to be considered very unreliable.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

A committee for the American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Immunology is considering revised guidelines recommending earlier introduction of foods like eggs, peanuts and shellfish, which in the past have been delayed until age 2 or 3. A 2008 study of 10,000 British children, reported in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, found that early exposure to peanuts lowered allergy risk.
This is interesting - I can understand how early exposure could lower the risk.

I agree, it is interesting. I wonder if Polly has any thoughts on that.

I haven't posted in a while, mainly because I have been doing somewhat better. Just had blood testing done for allergies (the lab recommended on the site can't service Maryland) Came back for wheat, rye, oats, milk and eggs. I am a bit surprised about the eggs, but have been wheat free for the most part since November with noticeably good results, including losing 25 pounds- I have tested my wheat intolerance a couple of times and also seem to have joint pains related to the wheat. I suppose I have been hoping this would go away, since I don't always have symptoms, but have gotten tired of feeling lousy so I am motivated. Good to see your posts!

Hi Motsy,

Yes, gluten causes such serious arthritis symptoms for me that before I cut it out of my diet, I sometimes had to use a cane just to get around because of knee inflammation. I haven't needed that cane in over 10 years now.

It's good to see that you're doing better too, with those foods out of your diet.
