"Oil on the water"

Post by Lilja »

Hi,

I don’t know if you have this saying; but in my country we speak of «oil on the water» of a person who has the ability of calming down a situation.

I was not calm when I discovered oily pearls floating in the toilet after a BM this evening. Litterary oily pearls, like when you cook some fat meat and the fat will rise to the top.

I’m currently tapering Entocort, 1 capsule every 6th day. I have the same bland diet as I have had for two years now. Today I’ve had a smoothie for breakfast (half a banana, a handful of blueberries, a clementine). For lunch I had two GF sandwiches with meat. I have tolerated smoothie quite well previously.

For dinner I had a chicken stew with paprikas, onions and full fat coconut milk which I cooked for 30 minutes, and rice. I have tolerated this well earlier.

I restarted my old routine this morning, by taking 1 tablespoon of cod liver oil, which I had stopped for almost 6 months. So, the fat I have eaten today is coconut oil and cod liver oil. I haven't had a problem with these two earlier.

I don't understand why suddenly I can't digest fat anymore. Is this a common fact with MC?

Hi Lilia,

Just because you are not digesting/absorbing all of the fat in your diet, does not mean that you are no longer capable of digesting fat. You probably just overloaded your system. That's why Dr. Fine advises skipping fish oil and other oil supplements prior to collecting a stool sample to be sent for a fat malabsorption test.

IOW, there is a limit to how much fat we can digest, and if we exceed that limit, then it will show up in the toilet. The more we heal, the more fat we can digest and absorb, but everyone has a limit, no matter how well their digestive system is working.

Thank you, Tex! That's good to hear. I was afraid that I had discovered a new issue.

I will gladly skip the cod liver oil; the smell and the taste. We were forced to take cod liver oil from the age when we started eating firm food. Even in school, we had to bring a tablespoon, and our teacher would start the day by going around with the bottle. The bottle was stored in the window...

Awful

Yes, I can remember taking cod liver oil when I was a kid, too.
