An asthma cure?

The World Health Organization says Asthma effects nearly 235 million people worldwide. Now Mayo clinic is making breakthroughs by discovering the roots of the disease, and coming up with potentially a new cure.

Mayo Clinic has been working with researchers all across the world, eventually locating a specific calcium sensing receptor. They say this receptor is the key to unlocking the possible cure.

Those with Asthma show a heightened level of extracellular calcium. It's an issue they say triggers this receptor. The receptor is responsible for many of the constricting symptoms that plague those who suffer from asthma. Mayo Clinic says they have discovered a way to reverse the effects using an antagonist

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

There is a docto in Aus who says that asthma is a symptom, not an illness/condition. Mainstream medicine has scoffed at his theory.

What I have learnt about inflammation, and triggers of inflammation in my MC journey I tend to agree.
I was severely asthmatic as a child. In adult years, had frequent issues anytime I had a cold or flu etc.

Since implementing low inflammation MC management plan.... No asthma...
I have make notes in my diary to check use by dates on the inhalers as I never use them.

I have a young nephew with asthma that flares up from time to time. He's needed to visit the ER a couple times from it in the past. Heard he experienced a bad day today. His mom needed to pick up some medicines. I've tried to encourage him and his mom to try out diet ideas but no success so far.

We've been concerned some of the steroid medications could be hard on his growing body.

My son loves to go skiing. This new hobby he has now at the age of 35, has given him socalled "exercise induced asthma". This comes from skiing and sweating in cold weather. No one else in the family has asthma.

I have tried to make him stop eating gluten and dairy. He has only quit dairy so far, but it's gotten no better. Obviously you can't teach an old dog to sit.

Lilja,

I'm chuckling at the mention about skiing and asthma. Not at you and your son of course! Hope he find something that helps. To help my nephew my sister has mentioned a few times that she might move the family to the house they have high up in the Rocky Mountains, where they ski and hike! My sisters family lives along the Mississippi river most of the year. For some reason that is where the severe asthma attacks my nephew experiences happen. When in Colorado, high up in the mountains where the air is thin and many have breathing difficulties, my nephews asthma goes away.

Hard to say what is going on. Altitude and air pressure I guess can have different effects on health. Epilepsy suffers I heard recently have more episodes when at higher elevations. For my nephew I suspect his asthma problem might be caused by mold in the air. The Mississippi home is older and environment humid. Just a guess.

I sent my sister yesterday an article about fungal medications helping with asthma. She's typically open to trying new ideas - outside of diet. Maybe medications or something like olive leaf extract or garlic might help my poor nephew. If so she might be more interested in diet ideas. The nephew of course would have a say too about that!
