Allegra
I have only posted one time and want to thank all who responded.I stated in first post I was taking Robinul and it was suggested I titrate due to side effects. I have tried but have not been successful.D has returned. It was also suggested to try Allegra.I would like to know what mg dosage would be recommended . My body weight is 120. I currently had to go to an FNP a she did not feel comfortable filling my prescription for Robinul and GI doctor recommended not taking new patients and other available choice waiting date 4 months I have IBS, MC and diverticulosis .
Hi Zoey,
Recently, anticholinergics (presumably including Robinul) have been shown to cause an increased risk of developing dementia, after long term use. So that may be why some doctors are reluctant to prescribe them.
Most members here who use Allegra, just try a single tablet at first. If 1 tablet seems to help, but not enough to resolve your symptoms, then try 2. It's safe to take up to 4 per day, because allergists often prescribe up to that amount to patients when treating dermatomyositis. Don't take more than 4 per day though, because 10 tablets per day, for example, can be fatal in some cases. Most members here find that 1 or 2 tablets are usually sufficient (if Allegra is going to work).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
My 12 hour Allegra is a 180mg fexofenadine....on a day like today where my sinus allergies are off the charts I may have to take a second one half way thru the 12 hours, but usually one tablet helps quite a bit, and I don't usually have such crazy allergies hit me but we are getting some weather changes like mad around the Pacific Northwest.
Hope this helps.

If you know you are not allergic to allergy meds (or do not notice a reaction with one tablet) 60mg is a very safe dose. Be mindful that 60mg may not last long in your system though. Depends on why you are using it...if it is for the gut only I'd try 60mg see if it helps, if it is for the gut and any sinus/allergy issues I'd bump it to the 180mg dose for 12 hours.
I read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fexofenadine that large doses (all the way up to 800mg - which I don't feel is necessary) did not affect oneself due to it not being able to cross the blood brain barrier. Take Wikipedia for what it's worth, but I haven't read anywhere that this information is false either. I also noticed that it said to not take any Antacids containing Magnesium within 15 minutes of taking Allegra making it 50% inactive.
I am not aware of too many that have a reaction to Allegra, I have taken 180mg one tab daily for a year now, and I don't notice anything other than it has probably helped to keep my colitis histamine down to a tolerable level. I hope to wean off it one day when my colitis gets to a remission point.
I took a 180mg early this morning, and another one 6 hours later, it appears this is a better dose for me today due to my itchy eyes and runny nose. I don't take this dose every day. I also am trying not to eat high histamine foods (aged foods) either as I don't want to contribute to any more histamine build up in my body at this time.
Cheers
