Another Misleading Research Article

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Was this research conducted with a corrupt agenda in mind or were the researchers just dumb? Check this out:
FRIDAY, May 8, 2015 (HealthDay News) -- A high-protein diet may backfire for people at risk for heart disease -- increasing the likelihood of weight gain and early death, a new study suggests.

Replacing carbohydrates and fats with protein is touted as a quick way to weight loss. But this long-term Spanish study of older adults found these high-protein diets -- think Atkins and South Beach, for example -- may be harmful.

When protein replaced carbohydrates, for instance, the eating plan was linked to a 90 percent greater risk of gaining more than 10 percent of body weight. It was also linked to a 59 percent higher risk of death from any cause, the researchers found.

When protein replaced fat, risk of death rose 66 percent, the researchers said.
But not one word about the proper way to do a high-protein (aka low-carb diet) diet, nor any results associated with the use of a proper low-carb, high protein diet.

First off, in contrast to what's stated in the article, the goal of those diets is not to replace carbs and fats with protein — it's to replace carbs with protein and fats in one, and carbs and so-called "unhealthy fats" with so-called "healthier" alternatives in the other. The proper way to do such diets is to replace the carbs with protein and or fat. Avoiding fat is not only counterproductive, but downright dangerous, health-wise. So why did the researchers go about their reporting in such a convoluted manner (completely ignoring the benefits of replacing carbs with fats, or replacing carbs with a combination of protein and fats)? Obviously they had an agenda to promote (to find a way to discourage the use of increased protein in the diet). But increased protein works just fine — as long as the diet also contains plenty of saturated fats. Shame on them.

High-Protein Diet May Be Dangerous for Those at Risk of Heart Disease

Thanks,

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks it's trash.

Our Minister of Health also messes around with nutrition advices; "meager meat and oils in stead of fat, will reduce fat consumption in the population". People have started an FB-page to fight back on his stupid advices. But, as we know:
