Not a trace...
Hi,
Can I ask one thing: When we wipe ourselves, and there is nothing on the toiletpaper, not a trace... For the first time in 5 years!
Isn't that a success?
I'm so happy!

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Update:
I'm still having Normans, much to my surprise. I have been weaning off Entocort since December 2014, and have only 3 capsules left. I take a Zyrtec each morning.
I often wonder if we'll ever understand this disease, and while I was asking for reasons why I got CC 5 years ago, I'm now asking myself why I don't have D any longer.
I tend to believe that my remission is much due to the B-vitamin regimen Tex gave me in December, and that this in addition to a strict diet for the last 2 years, have turned out to my advantage.
I guess I'll never know, but I can live with that.

Lilia,
That's a very interesting observation (that methylation issues might have a significant effect on the treatment of MC symptoms).
Thank you for sharing your insight. We probably need to devote more time to thinking about this possibility.

Tex,
Maybe the B-vitamins make our intestines more robust? Back in the old days; we were told that B-vitamins result in healthy hair, skin and nails. Maybe this also goes for the collagen in our intestines? Could it be that simple?

Maybe, but most of us don't have significant B vitamin deficiencies unless we have methylation issues, and methylation issues mostly respond to the active forms of the vitamins (which is what you were taking). Most people who do not have methylation issues can get all the B vitamins they need either from their food, or from a low-cost mutivitamin.

Hi Lilia,
Well, intrinsic factor controls the absorption of B-12 (in the form of cobalamin), but I'm not aware of any research that associates a lack of intrinsic factor with a methylation problem. Of course that doesn't mean that methylation problems cannot affect the production of intrinsic factor by the parietal cells of the stomach, it simply means that no research data have been published about it (at least I'm not aware of any). Probably it has never occurred to anyone that it should be researched.

Hi Tex,
I googled "definition of intrinsic factor", and found this :
"The reason is that in PA (pernicious anemia), patients suffer from gastric mucosal atrophy, most likely caused by a destructive autoimmune process".

PS: The edit-button has suddenly disappeared, so I cannot edit my last post. "Mucosal atrophy"... I thought that Collagenous Colitis meant thickening of the mucosa layers in the colon, not atrophy.
Still confused :-)

Yes, I know, but this is a relatively complex topic. Probably the most likely way that methylation issues could affect parietal cells would be by compromised DNA methylation. That would enable epigenetic corruption that could result in AI damage to parietal cells. Here is a link to an article that discusses how epigenetic issues can be associated with AI diseases, but it's quite technical, due to the nature of the topic.
