Thanks Leah,
I guess I got the impression that protein was good, but veggies may not help at this point. I don't use canola, so I'll try to watch for it in anything else I come across. I'll modify the diet to be turkey an steamed zucchini or squash for a while.

Erica,

I believe that Leah was not necessarily trying to promote vegetables in a recovery diet. What she was doing was to emphasize the need to keep the diet simple, and avoid grains. IOW she was pointing out that proteins and a few well-cooked vegetables are much safer than grains when we are trying to heal our digestive system.

It is true that veggies may not help (at least not early on — but after we are in remission they are easier to tolerate and then they are very healthful for us). Early on we have to keep the serving sizes of vegetables reasonable in order to avoid overdoing the fiber, but most of us prefer a little variety in our meals and vegetables can provide that variety much more safely than grains. At least I believe that was her point. Leah, please correct me if I am wrong.

I hope I haven't just confused the issue.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thank you so much everybody!!!

Gabes: I hope you will feel better very soon, sending healing hugs your way!

Brandy: how is Dusty doing?

Erica:
I took a class called MBSR (meditation based stress reduction) at the local University Medical Center. It is an 8-week class taught in nearly every state. You might want to look into it. I never meditated before and really, really liked the class and the effect that meditation has on me. The program was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn who also wrote several books. The one I am reading is called:
Full catastrophe living, using the wisdom of your body and mind to face stress, pain, and illness
It is a huge book, very good, but not a fast read, and I enjoy reading it much more after having taken the class. It seems to make sense in a different way now.

Another good book that I am reading that was recommended to me:
Who ordered this truckload of dung? Inspiring stories for welcoming life's difficulties by Ajahn Brahm. The individual stories are short (perfect length to read in bed before going to sleep) but full of meaning and written with a lot of humor.

Love, Patricia

Ok, I'm slowly starting to see where I need to be going with this. I also realized that I need to cut out anything I may drink that could have sugar in it. This may be my biggest culprit of all after taking notes of my habits during a day.

I don't know if it is just wishful thinking but my Bristol pattern went from a 7 yesterday morning to a 6 early this morning to a 5 just before I went out the door to head to work. :???: I will maintain the same foods I ate yesterday and see if I can make another day resemble this one.

I feel I was helped a lot yesterday with all the helpful ideas and just general caring period. My mind needed that a lot, so I Thank Everyone who has been commenting on this post, it means more than you know to me.

Lol, I'm not as confused as I first thought Tex, but thank you for clearing that piece up for me, perhaps I need to move away from grain things in this beginning stage, although I left rice in last night with turkey and only put a couple tiny pieces of cranberry jell on top of it all, kinda like a thanksgiving dinner

This morning all I ate was Rice Chex cinnamon flavor with coconut milk and took my probiotics and allegra.

I'm really not eating too many things, I ought to be able to fish out whichever one may be causing me upset at this point.

Thanks Patricia, those are some good ideas, I'll look into them as well. I do have an IBS CD Meditation set that I found on the Heathers Tummy Care site from Seattle, I may need to pull it out again. It was relaxing a year ago

I always seem to get riled up and frustrated after a Dr. visit, today two days later after talking with everyone, I feel more at peace.

Erica,

Doctors visits have become easier for me now that I expect nothing from them. That way I am never disappointed and occasionally pleasantly surprised. When a doctor is particularly obnoxious I remind myself to not take it personally. Clearly the doctor is the one with the problem since I make it a practice to be unfailingly polite.

HI Jean,
I guess I had higher expectations of my Dr. after he told me he had helped many with my issue. I expected him to look at my results help me with some guidelines give me a baseline at least to start with instead of handing me my results and saying 'well this looks pretty self explanatory, remove what it says to avoid and your should see improvement soon"

This truly is a self help issue once you get thru the Dr. bureaucracy just so insurance will contribute if it does at all.

Hi Erica. Yes, Tex was correct . I didn't mean to say too many veggies was good. At the beginning, I stuck to green beans, squash, and cauliflower ( sweet potato too). When I was reading your last post though, I noticed you are taking a probiotic. Are you sure that this isn't the culprit ? Each time I have tried a probiotic, my symptoms got worse. Most of us don't do well with them….. and the ones who do can't really claim that they HELP.
Just a thought

Hi Leah
What should I do if my baseline stool analysis showed I have zero lacctibillious. That's my main reason for taking it.
I'm gonna stick to fresh protein at each meal an add a small amount of vege, who knows maybe I can work in rice to tell if it affects me. If I can keep watching results of a Bristol stool 5 I may be onto something.

There are so many different types of bacteria in our guts ( lacctibillious is just one ) and we all have our own balance of them. Sometimes, when we introduce one that we don't have, it upsets the balance. Like I said, it was just a thought. I hope you get there with your plan…. but if you don't, you might want to rethink the probiotics.
Good luck

Thanks Leah,
I really appreciate your concern and I will watch myself in these next few days to see if it may need to be stopped for the moment.

I just ordered the Enterolab kit for A1 and C1 panel combo.

I do not want to just wait another 3-4 months, I want to be 100% certain of what I need to stay away from right now.

In the mean time everyone's input prompted me to take it to the next and final level. At least this way even some of the things that came up with the moderate allergens in the blood panel I may be able to bring back to my diet on a rotation basis at some point, but with Enterolab I know it is going to be a way of life from here on out.

Another 3 weeks and I'll be a bit more wiser  I hope.....
Sigh

Good for you! I was unable to use my results from Enterolab because it turned out that I am IgA deficient, so the results all came back negative! What a waste of money. I'm happy that you will have some answers soon. Please let us know when you get them.

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for asking about Dusty. He's doing good. I wrote a detailed update several days ago but lost it by mistake before I hit the submit button. I'll give a detailed update in a day or so when I have a little more time.

Erica,

Re: probiotics--I'm another one who reacted to them early on. Probiotics are controversial for us. We have a few members who swear that they helped them. A ton of people on the board reacted to them early on but can tolerate them down the road after healing, i.e. they have negative effect or no effect early on. If you take them make sure they are dairy free.

Hi Brandy,
I checked, they are Mercola brand, dairy, gluten soy free. In a few more days I'll make a judgement call one way or another 👍
I feel so loved right now, or at least cared about 😊
Thanks

Erica

Speaking of rice.I was going through some pretty rough times last winter and my DW started pumping coconut oil in me every day.
I would have A lot of coconut rice and my foods cooked in coconut oil .
I made bone broth and when I would feel the inflammation kicking up in my gut I would warm up A half cup of broth and drink it I would feel A calm in my gut right away.I was one sick puppy last winter and I believe the combination of both is what helped me .I was on Entcort for 4 months and don't think it really helped me as much as it has for others.
Best wishes just hang in there this disease is A real Deamon we just need to put it to sleep.

Terry

PS I have given up on relying on my PCP
